The Tim Russert Department of Communication and Theatre is proud to present
the spring theatre production: Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike,
directed by Karen Gygli. This comedy by Christopher Durang won the Tony
Award for Best Play and the Drama Desk Award for Outstanding Play in 2013.
Vanya and Sonia are brother and sister and they feel unable to cope with
life. They still live in their childhood home near a "cherry orchard" in
Bucks County, PA. Their lives are disrupted when Masha, their flamboyant
sister, comes home with her gorgeous bimbo of a boyfriend Spike. Masha is
sick of supporting her reclusive siblings and wants to make money selling
off their house. Yet Vanya and Sonia have something Masha doesn't have:
the sympathy of their clairvoyant housekeeper Cassandra. Can Masha be
convinced to let Vanya and Sonia stay put? Will Vanya and Sonia find love
and happiness? And who will wear what to that crazy costume party? A
comedy with a heart from a great contemporary playwright. Some mild mature
content and language. Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike opens Friday,
March 31 and runs March 31,
April 1, 7 and 8 at 7:30PM, and Sunday, April 9 at 2PM. All performances
are in Kulas Auditorium. Tickets can be reserved by calling 216-397-4428
the week of the show. Tickets are $7 with a reservation and $10 at the
door.
