Burgeoning Director Brings “Sex” to Chagrin Falls

CHAGRIN FALLS, OHIO - On April 21, 2017, the Chagrin Valley Little 
Theatre will present the play, /Sex with Strangers/, under the helm of 
director Kourtney Daugherty.

Performances will run April 21 to May 6 on Friday and Saturday nights 
beginning at 8:00 p.m. There will also be a Sunday Matinee on April 30 
at 2:00 p.m. The show will be performed at CVLT’s River Street Playhouse 
on 56 River St - west of the main CVLT building.

The play, written by Laura Eason, a writer for the hit Netflix show, 
/House of Cards/ is focused on lust, love, and the complex nature of 
identity in the digital age.

When twenty-something star sex blogger and memoirist Ethan tracks down 
his idol, the gifted but obscure forty-ish novelist Olivia, he finds 
they each crave what the other possesses. As attraction turns to sex, 
and they inch closer to getting what they want, both must confront the 
dark side of ambition and the trouble of reinventing oneself when the 
past is only a click away.

Director Kourtney Daugherty, a valued regular performer, stage manager, 
and jack of all trades at CVLT, is stepping into new territory in this 
role. While she co-directed the 2016 /10-10 Festival/ and was the sole 
director of CVLT’s /Murder by the Falls/, this will be the first time 
she has been selected to do a regular production with the theater, 
currently in its 87th season.

“While the show's title, /Sex with Strangers/, made me take notice, the 
content is what kept me interested,” Kourtney explains. “It's not just 
about watching two people engage in intimacy onstage. It's about what 
happens when their fantasies become reality. She adds, “the show takes 
the time to focus on what happens when these two people with mutual 
interests and obvious chemistry explore the possibility, even if just an 
illusion, of a real relationship, all while dealing with their own 
personal baggage and the exposure of one of their checkered pasts.”

A newcomer to CVLT, Joe Kenderes will play Ethan. Joe most recently has 
been seen in Blank Canvas Theatre’s /39 Steps/ as Hannay and Medina Show 
Biz’s/...Spelling Bee /as Panch. He is also a founding member and 
performer for the Laughter League sketch comedy troupe.

Christy Wright will play Olivia. She was last seen as Alex in/Kid Like 
Jake/ at Weathervane Playhouse and has graced the stages of Theater 
8:15, Stow Players, CVLT, Western Reserve Playhouse, and Wolfcreek 
Players, among others.

The producer for this production is Laurel Bryant, with Tom Boehringer 
as stage manager, and Marissa Gelender running the light and sound board

Tickets for /Sex with Strangers/ are $12.00/each and can be purchased 
online at CVLT.org or by phone at 440-247-8955, 1-6 p.m. Monday through 
Saturday.
