[NEohioPAL] Musical Director needed for Rocky Horror Picture Show at the Akron Civic Theatre

The Millennial Theatre Project at the Akron Civic Theatre is looking for a Musical Director for its upcoming production of The Rocky Horror Show.

Overview:

The Akron Civic Theatre's Millennial Theatre Project bridges the gap between youth and adult community theater. We strive for non-traditional casting of actors, actresses, and production staff 18-35 years old. We are looking for a musical director with strong communication and organizational skills, be able to work collaboratively with the director, cast and band, on top of the expected musical expertise. The Rocky Horror Show will be performed August 17-18th as part of the LGBT Akron Arts Festival. Rehearsal starting the week of June 26th. Depending on schedule conflicts, ideally we will have three to four rehearsals a week in in the evenings and some weekend afternoons.

Skills Required:

The music director is responsible for working with the director in preparing the theatre production for public performance, including rehearsing the cast and band, and conducting (and selecting if needed) the band.

The music director works with singers in partnership with the director, rehearsing the cast and band together, and serving as conductor for all performances.

It is essential that the production's director and musical director have an ongoing and mutually supportive collaboration. The director communicates his or her vision of the show, and the music director uses their understanding of the show's musical demands to help the director (and cast) be successful.  The musical director works with the director in scheduling rehearsals, which cast members need to be there, and what the directors expect to accomplish at each rehearsal.

Responsibilities include:
*         Scheduling music rehearsals in collaboration with the director
*         Helping cast members learn their music
*         Leading music rehearsals for principals, chorus and band
*         Working with the sound designer when microphones will be used
*         Attending production meetings and rehearsals, as needed

Qualifications:


  *   Prior experience in directing or training in a theatre setting
  *   Prior experience in vocal training
  *   Must be able to play the piano
