>> CLEVELAND'S OWN "ROBERTO OCASIO" LATIN JAZZ CAMP
>> June 25 - 30, 2017
>>
>>
>> The Roberto Ocasio Foundation (TROF) 2017 applications are being accepted until May 15 for the Camp, June 25-30, at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland. The Camp has been in existence for 13 years under the leadership of Artistic Director/Artist-In-Residence, Bobby Sanabria--seven-time Grammy nominee and world-renowned jazz and Latin jazz drummer/percussionist, composer, music educator, bandleader, and producer.
>>
>> For music students of all instruments in grades 8-12, the one-of-a-kind resident Camp emphasizes the Latin side of the jazz continuum that includes learning about the history, culture, and relationship to jazz and all other forms of American popular music, and a public performance. The program covers technical and style aspects of Latin jazz, analysis of Latin American rhythms (in particular, la clave), and jazz composing, arranging, and improvising.
>
>> $700 tuition covers dorm accommodations, meals, instruction, materials, rehearsals, professional and celebrity presentations/sessions, cultural activities, and field trips.
>>
>> The KeyBank Foundation will present the Camp's annual big-band Latin Jazz concert on June 30th, 7pm, at The Cleveland Museum of Art, Gartner Auditorium - 11150 East Boulevard in University Circle; Cleveland, Ohio. The concert is FREE and open to the public. Mr. Sanabria will direct Camp students, faculty and special guest artist(s) TBA in a Latin-jazz repertoire that also pays tribute to early Cuban influences, plus the 100th birthday of Dizzy Gillespie and the 60th anniversary of the Broadway opening of the renowned musical, West Side Story.
>>
>> The Ocasio Latin Jazz Camp is supported in part by the residents of Cuyahoga County through a public grant from Cuyahoga Arts & Culture and The Char and Chuck Fowler Family Foundation, The KeyBank Foundation, The George Gund Foundation, and The Giant Eagle Foundation. Mr. Sanabria's residency is made possible in part by LP (Latin Percussion), Remo, Sabian, Tama, and Vic Firth.
