*Hand to God  *by Robert Askins presents an intriguing premise: the Rec
Room in a church in Cypress, Texas, where Margery leads her students in a
puppet pageant to strengthen their faith in the Bible. But when the young
members of the Christian Puppet Ministry put those teachings into practice,
one devout young man's puppet takes on a shocking personality that no one
could have expected.

But an intriguing premise, and decent cast are not enough to overcome a
resounding lack of meaningful drama or impactful thrills. The production
lagged at times, especially at the opening, but it did eventually get
funny. However, bright spots, and a hard working cast couldn't save
the show, a flimsy sketch of an idea promoted far beyond its means. There’s
lots of talk of heaven and hell, but this feels a lot more like purgatory.
