Position Description – Part Time Music EducationCoordinator

 

The part-time (15 hrs./wk.) MusicEducation Coordinator will help to develop, implement and evaluate new,affordable opportunities for community members to participate in BSMA’s musiceducation programming, such as musicianship classes, ensembles of various sizesand performances. Current programming takes place offsite through active and growingcommunity partnerships and at BSMA’s facility (private lessons, youth drum corps).Reports to Executive Director.

 

Key Responsibilities include:

·      Create,facilitate and promote new ensemble learning opportunities involving currentand future BSMA instrumental music students, instructors and other communitymembers, in response to documented needs, interest and resources.

·      Develop, pilotand promote free musicianship classes, working closely with BSMA instructors.

·      Scheduleand coordinate BSMA music students to perform in the community solo and/or inensembles, working with parents and others to facilitate transportation. Fieldother community requests for performances by BSMA students.

·      Developseries of educational music concerts to be presented at BSMA and other Slavic Village venues, workingwith partners such as Cleveland Institute of Music CommunityOutreach program, and Cleveland International Piano Competition’s ArtsConnect program, and others. 

·      Updateand maintain BSMA’s inventory of teaching instruments; monitor storage, tuningsand repairs, and locate additional instruments as needed (either throughdonation or purchase).

·      Help todevelop and implement evaluation of new ensembles and music classes.

Additionalresponsibilities include:

·      Helptrack ensemble participation and audience numbers for grant applications and reports.

·      Providebrief written updates for monthly Board meetings.

·      Work withBSMA’s Community Outreach Coordinator to enhance music education offerings and instruction at partnersites.

·      Assistwith development of music education program budget.

·      Assist withphotographic and video documentation of concert programs.

·      Assist withpublicizing BSMA’s music education programs via social media, print media and community fliers.

·      Assistwith recruiting and supervising ensemble and concert program volunteers andinterns.

·       Keep currenton field of community music education and related best practices.

Preferred Qualifications:

·       Bachelor’s degree in music or music education.

·       At least 2 years administrative experience,preferably at the program level in a community-basedarts organization.

·       Attentive to detail, flexible andcapable of juggling multiple priorities.

·       Strong oral, written and interpersonalcommunications skills.

·       Ability to embrace and championmusic education within a broad range of musical forms, from traditional to contemporary, as well as within adiverse community setting.

·       Ability to establish effectiveand professional working relationships with diverse populations as well as non-arts sector organizations andindividuals with varying levels ofexpertise and perspectives.

·       Direct music teaching experience is a plus.
