Stocker Arts Center Presents 2017 LCCC Fall Film Series

Stocker Arts Center presents the LCCC Fall Film Series on the Lorain County Community College campus. Films are shown on Fridays at 7:30 p.m. in the Hoke Theatre. The fall series includes:

*         "The Eagle Huntress"
Friday, September 8, 7:30 p.m.
2016 (G) 87 min. UK, Mongolia, USA /Some subtitles
Director: Otto Bell
Cast: Aisholpan, Nurgaív, Daisy Ridley
The film follows Aisholpan, a 13-year-old girl, as she trains to become the first female in twelve generations of her Kazakh family to become an eagle hunter, and rises to the pinnacle of a tradition that has been handed down from father to son for centuries. Set against the breathtaking expanse of the Mongolian steppe, the film features some of the most awe-inspiring cinematography ever captured in a documentary, giving this intimate tale of a young girl's quest the dramatic force of an epic narrative film. While there are many old Kazakh eagle hunters who vehemently reject the idea of any female taking part in their ancient tradition, Aisholpan's father Nurgaív believes that a girl can do anything a boy can, as long as she's determined.

*         "The Founder"
*Friday, September 15, 7:30 p.m.
2017 (PG-13) 115 min. USA
Director: John Lee Hancock
Cast: Michael Keaton, Nick Offerman, John Carroll Lynch, Laura Dern
"The Founder" features the true story of how Ray Kroc, a struggling salesman from Illinois, met Mac and Dick McDonald, who were running a burger operation in 1950s Southern California. Kroc was impressed by the brothers' speedy system of making the food and saw franchise potential. The film details how Kroc maneuvered himself into a position to be able to pull the company from the brothers and create a billion-dollar empire with a combination of ambition, persistence, and ruthlessness. Michael Keaton's performance as Ray Kroc is one for the ages. This unbelievable true story sizzles with energy in demonstrating how one idea changed everything.

*         "Howards End"
Friday, September 22, 7:30 p.m.
1992 (PG) 143 min. United Kingdom
Director: James Ivory
Cast: Emma Thompson, Anthony Hopkins, Vanessa Redgrave, Helena Bonham Carter
Re-released in a sparkling new 4K restoration that dazzled audiences at its Cannes restoration debut, this landmark example of a movie of passion, taste and sensitivity that honestly touches so many emotions has not only not dated, it is as moving and relevant as it was the day of its 1992 release. One of the best Ismail Merchant/James Ivory films, this adaptation of E. M. Forster's classic 1910 novel shows in careful detail the injuriously rigid British class consciousness of the early 20th century. The film's catalyst is "poor relation" Margaret Schlegel, who inherits part of the estate of Ruth Wilcox, an upper-class woman whom she had befriended. Nominated for 9 Oscars, including Best Picture and Best Director, the film is a masterpiece, a perfect combination of adapted literature, production design, and thought-provoking dialogue.

2017 (PG) 92 min. USA
Director: Eleanor Coppola

Eleanor Coppola's feature film directorial and screenwriting debut at the age of 81 stars Academy Award nominee Diane Lane as a Hollywood producer's wife who unexpectedly takes a trip through France, which reawakens her sense of self and her joie de vivre. Anne is at a crossroads in her life. Long married to a successfully driven but inattentive movie producer, she finds herself taking a car trip from Cannes to Paris with a business associate of her husband. What should be a seven-hour drive turns into a journey of discovery involving fine food and wine, humor, wisdom, and picturesque sights. Take a break and go on a journey through the French countryside.

He soon strikes up an exciting contentious relationship with stand-up comic Charlotte, and he attempts to reconnect with his estranged daughter, Lucy, all while searching for one final role to cement his legacy.

2017 (PG-13) 115 min. Canada, Ireland
