*Waitress is a theatrical treat, no matter how you slice it. Filled to the
brim with familiar musical theatre ingredients -- love-starved
characters, tasty trysts, bittersweet relationships -- the show nonetheless
mixes them up in flavorful new ways that leaves you wanting more.Following
the original recipe of Adrienne Shelley's film, the stage version
of Waitress finds its central character Jenna (Desi Oakley) stuck in an
abusive marriage with Earl (Nick Bailey) with a baby on the way. She
escapes from reality by creating cleverly-named pies that are very popular
at the diner she works at. Her coworkers (Ryan G. Dunkin, Lenne Klingaman,
and Charity Angel Dawson) offer her support, and the curmudgeonly owner Joe
(Larry Marshall) slips her some wise words along with her tips. But nothing
can cheer her up until the new doctor in town (Bryan Fenkart) injects her
with a newfound lust for life...*
