The University of Akron School of Dance, Theatre, and Arts Administration
is looking for actors, musicians, and dancers to audition for the Spring
Theatre Mainstage production of *Romeo and Juliet, *written by William
Shakespeare and directed by Terence Cranendonk. A timeless classic, this
romantic tragedy follows the story of two star-crossed lovers and their
feuding families in one of the most famous and widely performed plays of
all time.

Full-time rehearsals will begin January 22, 2018. Performance dates will be
March 8-11, 15-17, and 21. The cast will also be asked to meet a few times
in December 2017 and to memorize lines before full-time rehearsals begin.
Auditions are open to students and community members. If you are cast,
expect to rehearse Monday through Friday evenings for 3 to 4 hours.

*WHAT TO PREPARE:*

Peter Brook said, “I can take any empty space and call it a bare stage. A
man walks across this empty space whilst someone else is watching him, and
this is all that is needed for an act of theatre to be engaged.” Someone
doing something in a space, someone watching. For your audition, prepare
your own “act of theatre,” your own theatrical event: Do something. In a
space (Studio 194). I’ll be watching. Include something spoken. Use your
imagination. Surprise me. Feel free to utilize any and all of your
performative talents—musical, athletic, gymnastical, magical, whatever
you’ve got—work from your strengths. No more than two minutes long, please.
Also come prepared to write down all your schedule conflicts from Dec. 1,
2017 through March 21, 2018.

*WHERE TO GO:*

Studio 194, Guzzetta Hall, The University of Akron, Buchtel Ave.

(Across the street from E.J. Thomas Hall)

*WHEN TO BE THERE:*

Monday, November 27, 7-9pm

Tuesday, November 28, 7-9pm

Please show up at the beginning of one of the audition times above, no
appointment necessary.

Callbacks are Wednesday, November 29, 7-9pm

There will be no reserved time slots, so be prepared to stay for the entire
block of time. For more information, email tcranendonk at gmail.com

Thank you,
