FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE - Auditions for Rabbit Run Theater's Production of
"Quilters"

Rabbit Run Theater operated by Rabbit Run Community Arts Association (RRCAA)
announces auditions for the upcoming production of the musical "Quilters" by
Molly Newman and Barbara Damashek.

Auditions are by appointment Dec. 5 and 6 at 7:00 pm at the C. K. Rickel
Theatre in the Royce Hall for Fine and Performing Arts at Lake Erie College.
Royce Hall is located on the east side of the LEC campus off of Gillett St.

A mother and her six daughters tell this moving story of pioneer life, taken
from the handwritten diaries of women who helped settle the west.

Originally developed and produced by the Denver Center Theatre Company, this
joyous and moving celebration of American womanhood became a record-setting
regional theater success before its presentations on Broadway and at the
Edinburgh Festival.

Quilters blends a series of interrelated scenes into a rich mosaic which
captures the sweep and beauty, the terror and joy, the harsh challenge and
abiding rewards of frontier life. Illuminating stories contained in various
patches or "blocks" with music, dance and drama, the action depicts the lot
of women on the frontier: girlhood, marriage, childbirth, spinsterhood,
twisters, fire, illness and death. But, with this, there is also love,
warmth, rich and lively humor and the moving spectacle of simple human
dignity and steadfastness in the face of adversity. The musical has been
called "a theatrical masterstroke which will linger in the mind and memory
long after the houselights have dimmed."

There are seven roles available for women ages 15 through 65. The women in
the show play multiple roles, ages, and genders. Actors must be able to
sing in parts and be good with harmonies. Strong character actors desired.
All ethnicities welcome.

Actors auditioning should be prepared to sing 32 measures of a musical
theatre ballad or folk song. Please bring sheet music for accompaniment; no
pre-recorded accompaniment. Actors will also be asked to read a selection
from the script.

To make an audition appointment, call RRCAA at 440-428-5913.

"Quilters" is directed by Brint Learned, with musical direction by Alex Ulle
