The University School Performing Arts Department seeks an Assistant Music
Director for their upcoming production of “The Mystery of Edwin Drood”.
Responsibilities include:
Assisting with vocal rehearsals
Coaching soloists, small groups, and sectionals as needed
Conducting rehearsals in the absence of the Music Director
Attending dress rehearsals (listen for balance, take notes, etc.)
An ideal candidate will have:
Bachelor’s Degree in Music or equivalent experience
Willingness to work in a collaborative team
Interest in working with students grades 9-12
Ability to play piano for coachings and rehearsals (preferred, but not
required)
Availability to attend most rehearsals (some conflicts are acceptable)
Rehearsal schedule:
Rehearsals take place from 6-9pm Monday through Thursday, mid-January
through April. Not all rehearsals in January, February, and March are music
rehearsals.
There are no rehearsals between March 16 and April 2 (Spring Break).
There are two Sunday technical rehearsals on April 22 and April 29 from
1-6pm.
Final dress rehearsals take place on Monday, April 30 (6-10pm), Tuesday,
May 1 (6-10pm), and Wednesday, May 2 (8:30a-12pm).
Performances are May 5, 6, and 7 (7:30pm). The Assistant Music Director is
not required to attend performances.
Compensation:
Salary is commensurate with experience. This an independent contractor
position with no benefits. All University School employees and independent
contractors must successfully complete a background check.
