Ohio Shakespeare Festival’s Resident Fight Director Ryan Zarecki is offering many stage combat professional development opportunities this winter and spring.  Blizzard Bash: Stage Combat Sundays (Unarmed, Rapier and Dagger, Sword Tricks) and an Actors’ Stage Combat Intensive (single sword, unarmed, and weapon-of-choice).

Blizzard Bash: Stage Combat Sundays

FEBRUaRY 4, 11, & 18

2:00-4:00 EACH DAY 

Ages 14+ 

The Ohio Shakes fight team recently attended the Winter Wonderland Workshop stage combat intensive in Chicago--and we want to show some of our new skills to you! Beginners and experienced combatants welcome--our small class environment allows us to cater to your skill level. 

(Please note: while this workshop will be an excellent professional development opportunity, it does not qualify toward SAFD sanctioned contact hours.)  

3 Day Registration--$60

2 Day Pass--$45

1 Day Pass--$30

February 4--Unarmed Combat. 

Every actor needs to know safe practices for unarmed combat. Learn slaps, punches, kicks, falls, and more.

February 11--Rapier and Dagger.

This swashbuckling combo is important material for all Shakespeare actors.

February 18--Stupid Sword Tricks.

Exactly as it sounds, these tricks are great for actors, and are pretty ridiculous.

Actor Stage Combat Intensive

APRIL 7, 14, & 21

12:00-2:00 EACH DAY 

Ages 16+ 

This extended stage combat workshop is geared toward actors with previous stage combat experience. It's spring in NE Ohio--prepare for audition season with all those local Shakespeare companies by sharpening your stage combat skills.

Small class environment allows us to meet students at their own skill level. This workshop will be more fast-paced and challenging than our normal FIGHT NIGHTs. 

3 Day Registration--$75

2 Day Pass--$55

1 Day Pass--$35

April 7--Single Sword.

Great prep for any swashbuckling shows--Single sword is a much needed skill set for any actor looking to tackle the classics.

April 14--Unarmed.

Whether it's West Side Story or As You Like It or everything in between, every theatre has a moment of unarmed combat in their season. Brush up on slaps, punches, falls, kicks, and more.

April 21--Class Choice.

For the final day of this intensive, we will poll the class to see which weapon the majority prefers to work on. We will choose among: Quarterstaff, Knife, Broadsword, Sword & Shield, Smallsword, or Rapier & Dagger.
