Seeking Proposals from Teaching Artists

Rose-Mary provides support to people with intellectual & developmental disabilities. We are currently growing our adult day services with the support of The Cleveland Foundation, and are seeking proposals from teaching artists to consult with us and develop enhanced content over the next several months.

The clients of our adult day program are young adults who have significant intellectual and developmental disabilities (such as autism), some with co-occurring mental health issues. The program is a place where people can come and enjoy a meaningful day, and be appreciated for who they are, no matter how significant their challenges.

We currently have teaching artists in dance, music, and Tai Chi, and are looking to expand with even more content. Consultation sessions can be one hour a week, or a few hours a day, several times a week.

We are looking for artists who can:

* See the potential of people who have significant disabilities

* Think "outside of the box" to come up with programming that will enhance quality of life for people with disabilities

* Develop sustainable programming that our program support staff can lead on an on-going basis in the future

* Train our staff to continue leading programs and activities once the consultation has concluded.

Potential areas for consulting artists:

*         Visual art

*         Music

*         Dance

*         Drama games

*         Adaptive sports & recreation

*         Other areas?

Imagine how you could bring your artistic experience into the world of people with significant disabilities - think about painting without having to grip a brush, creating music in a way that doesn't require experience or skill, dance based on how different bodies react to music, exploring feelings without words, using tablets to create short movies, etc.

How to apply:
Write a short summary of the programming that you could provide; remember the ultimate goal is for you to teach our existing staff how to eventually lead the activity themselves. Include information about any experience you have working with people with disabilities. Attach a resume and work sample/portfolio/demo video of you leading a session if available. Email your idea to Brad Wyner at bwyner at rose-marycenter.com<mailto:bwyner at rose-marycenter.com> (Brad is Rose-Mary's Behavior Support Specialist, has also worked as a teaching artist, and will help potential consultants develop and adapt their proposals). If we are interested in your proposal, we will contact you to meet and flush out potential details.

Because we work with a unique population, we may schedule artists for just a few sessions at first, and extend further if the project is going well. Competitive compensation as an independent contractor/consultant.
