Local Students Earn Medals from Lorain County Scholastic Art Exhibit Held at Stocker Arts Center

Area students whose artwork was displayed at Lorain County Community College at the 2018 Lorain County Regional Scholastic Art Exhibition were awarded six medals and earned a place in the National Scholastic Art Exhibition. The Lorain County Regional Scholastic Art Exhibit ran January 16 through February 11 in the Beth K. Stocker Art Gallery at Stocker Arts Center on LCCC's campus.

Five students were recognized and invited with their teachers to an awards celebration in New York City with appearances by notable celebrities and creative leaders at Carnegie Hall on Thursday, June 7. Their winning work will be publically displayed in the Art.Write.Now.2018 National Exhibition.

The event has acted as recognition for creative young people in Lorain County for 50 years. Students in grades seven through 12 submit works of art in a wide array of categories, including drawing, painting, photography, ceramics, glass, sculpture, mixed media, digital art, design, printmaking, film, editorial cartoons, fashion, jewelry, comic art, architecture and senior portfolio work. The entries are evaluated by a panel of local jurors comprised of artists, educators and arts professionals that select the award-winning art.
Local students who were awarded medals include:

* Maegan Bouchonville, Grade 12, "But I Love You," Gold Medal, Drawing and Illustration; and "Cloudy," Gold Medal, American Visions Medal, Western Reserve High School, teacher Jim Wiles
