*'Spring Awakening' *
Stirs Up Intense
Excitement at
*Near West Theatre*


*Spring Awakening* is a very popular musical with young people... most
likely because it's a musical about young people. Based on Frank Wedekind’s
groundbreaking and controversial play from 1890, *Spring Awakening* is
being presented at Near West Theatre as part of its Summer Teen/Young Adult
Musical (featuring actors and actresses ages 16-25), so that means the
musical is also being performed by young people!

But don't freak out, old people -- the emotions this show explores and the
messages it shares are easy to relate to by audience members of all ages.

Director Kelcie Nicole Dugger's powerful production at Near West Theatre
might not be for the faint-of-heart, but it's definitely for the
young-at-heart. She stages explosive group numbers and intimate
interactions with equal aplomb, aided by assistant director Amanda Bender.
Josh Landis has the performers kicking up their heels -- sometimes
literally into the air -- as the show's creative choreographer (assisted by
Melanie Campbell)...
