Auditions for Night Watch by Lucille Fletcher, directed by Pat Price

Sunday, August 19 and Monday, August 20 at 7:00 at Workshop Players Theater

Synopsis: Unable to sleep, Elaine Wheeler paces the living room of her
Manhattan townhouse, troubled by unsettling memories and vague fears. Her
husband tries to comfort her, but when he steps away for a moment Elaine
screams as she sees the body of a dead man in the window across the way.
The police are called, but find nothing except an empty chair. Elaine's
terror grows as shortly thereafter she sees still another body—this time a
woman's—but by now the police are skeptical and pay no heed to her frantic
pleas. Her husband, claiming that Elaine may be on the verge of a
breakdown, calls in a lady psychiatrist, who agrees with his suggestion
that Elaine should commit herself to a sanitarium for treatment. From this
point on, the plot moves quickly and grippingly as those involved—Elaine's
old friend and house guest Blanche; the inquisitive and rather sinister man
who lives next door; and the nosy German maid Helga—all contribute to the
deepening suspense.

Elaine Wheeler - Leading Role (30s-50s) A beautiful, married heiress with a
troubled past. Elaine is strong-willed yet given recent events, on the edge
of sanity with what she sees and struggles with whom she can trust. Often
times frantic and full of fear, this actress must be able to drive the true
suspense and mystery of this story. (3 rehearsal units)

John Wheeler - Leading Role - Elaine's second husband. Very dominating and
in control. He is concerned, yet exasperated by Elaine’s visions. The
audience will come to have mixed feelings about his responses to her
plight. (3 rehearsal units)

Helga - Nosy and bold. Works as a maid for the Wheeler family. Must have a
German accent. (3 rehearsal units)

Blanche Cook - Beautiful young nurse. Elaine’s best friend. Sympathetic and
seemingly truly concerned, Blanche must gain the audience’s trust if not
Elaine’s! (3 rehearsal units)

Vanelli - A handsome, young Italian cop with an interest in art. (1
rehearsal unit)

Lieutenant Walker - Assigned to investigate Elaine's claims. Grows
increasingly frustrated and believes Elaine has no evidence to warrant what
she has seen. (1 rehearsal unit)

Curtis Appleby - Nosy neighbor that lives in the apartment across the way.
Elaine is suspicious of his activity. Somewhat creepy. (2 rehearsal units)

Dr. Tracey Lake - Dr. Tracey come to evaluate Elaine. Oddly calls Elaine
who is 10 years her senior “child". She is calm, professional and somewhat
cool. (1 rehearsal unit)

Sam Hoke - Local business owner, famous for his potato salad. Sam is very
infuriated by Elaine's claims as it is severely affecting his business.
This character must make a splash! (1 rehearsal unit)
