The Student Matinee Series for the season includes:

Giggle, Giggle, Quack
Monday, October 8, 2018 at 9:45 a.m. and 11:45 a.m.
Lifeline Theatre

Running a farm is hard work, especially with cows that type, hens on strike, and a duck who's always causing trouble. So Farmer Brown takes off for a well-deserved vacation, leaving his brother Bob, an accountant from the city, in charge. Soon it's no work and all play (and cake, pizza, movies, and bubble baths) as the animals run wild, taking advantage of Bob's lack of experience. Will the animals come clean about their devious tricks, or is there more to Brother Bob than meets the eye? Take a break from the grind with the gang from Farmer Brown's farm with Lifeline Theatre's hit musical adaptation of the 2002 New York Times bestselling book by Doreen Cronin and Betsy Lewin.

Charlotte's Web
Friday, October 19, 2018 at 9:45 a.m. and 11:45 a.m.
TheaterWorksUSA

This performance is based on E.B. White's loving story of the friendship between a pig named Wilbur and a little gray spider named Charlotte. Wilbur has a problem: how to avoid winding up as pork chops! Charlotte, a fine writer and true friend, hits on a plan to fool Farmer Zuckerman -- she will create a "miracle." Spinning the words "Some Pig" in her web, Charlotte weaves a solution which not only makes Wilbur a prize pig, but ensures his place on the farm forever. This treasured tale, featuring mad-cap and endearing farm animals, explores bravery, selfless love, and the true meaning of friendship.

The Crucible
Monday, October 29, 2018 at 10 a.m.
National Players
By Arthur Miller

No one is safe as a reign of terror rips through 1692 Salem. Led by Abigail Williams, a group of girls who claim to have seen the Devil, hurl out charges of witchcraft, sending those who won't confess to the noose. When the accusing finger points to his wife, John Proctor is forced to confront his past and determine his future. Arthur Miller's searing drama, inspired by the McCarthy era, comes to vivid new life in the National Players' bare-knuckle staging. A piercing look at what can happen when truth is bent to political convenience, The Crucible is a powerful story for our time.

Mysteries of Ancient Egypt
Tuesday, November 13, 2018 at 9:45 a.m. and 11:45 a.m.
Virginia Rep on Tour

Inside a tiny case, two children find an ancient amulet in a neighbor's attic. Before her disappearance, Gama Harriet had been a famed Egyptologist. But what is the meaning of the hieroglyphs inscribed on the amulet, or the scribbled warnings found in Harriet's journal? Before they know it, the children are magically transported back to ancient Egypt in 620 BC where they meet Sema-tawy-tefnakht, a scribe to King Psamtik I. With his guidance, our two heroes unravel their mystery while we learn fascinating facts about one of the world's most amazing cultures. They meet princess Shepenwepet, the pharaoh's daughter, and travel with her on a fateful sea journey to Thebes where, with our contemporary heroes' help, she must establish a base of power to protect her father's kingdom. And guess who is waiting for them there. Thrills, dazzling beauty and historic fact combine in this novel melding of child-friendly mystery and accurate cultural exploration.
