AUDITIONS FOR UA THEATRE PROGRAM’S SPRING MAIN STAGE PRODUCTION OF *THE
LOWER DEPTHS*

Seeking students and community members to audition



The University of Akron School of Dance, Theatre, and Arts Administration
is looking for students and community members to audition for the theatre
program's Spring Main Stage production, Maxim Gorky’s *The Lower
Depths, *directed
by guest artist Jimmie Woody, Northeast Ohio actor/director who was
recently featured in Cleveland Playhouse’s production of *Sweat*. The play
first premiered in 1902. *The Lower Depths *depicts a group of impoverished
Russians living in a homeless shelter and is considered a staple of Russian
social realism. *The Lower Depths *explores the dichotomy between the harsh
truths of the characters’ reality and the comforting lies that pervade
their lives. Most of the characters choose to delude themselves over the
bleak reality of their condition.



Rehearsals will begin in January at the start of the spring semester.
Specific times and dates are yet to be determined.



*WHAT TO PREPARE*

Prepare to perform either a monologue of your choice or a cold reading from
the script of *The Lower Depths*. Please also come prepared to write down
all of your schedule conflicts.

Guzzetta Hall, Studio 28, The University of Akron, Buchtel Ave.

Monday, December 3, 5-7pm
