Want to get started making films, but are a little intimidated by all of
the technical details of using a camera? Do you own a DSLR, but aren't sure
how to use it to get the shots you see in your head? Are you afraid to use
your camera to shoot in manual mode because you don't know much about
exposure, ISO, or how to use all those buttons, menus, or settings?

Veteran filmmaker and photographer Donn R. Nottage demystifies your DSLR
camera and breaks down the basics of using it to make movies in this
community workshop from Short. Sweet. Film Fest
<http://shortsweetfilmfest.com>. and Gorilla Film School
<http://gorillafilmschool.com>.

This introductory level workshop will teach you the basics of DSLR
filmmaking including:

   - The basics of image exposure: ISO, aperture, and shutter speed
   - Some of the standard settings used in filmmaking--why they're
standard, and how to set them up on a DSLR
   - How lens speed and focal length affect exposure and perspective
   - Basic principles of cinematography and how they specifically apply to
   shooting on a DSLR
   - Basic settings and functions that all DSLR filmmakers should
   understand on their own cameras
   - And more!

Attendees are encouraged to bring in their own DSLR cameras so they can see
how many of the functions, settings, and topics can be directly applied to
their own camera.

The workshop will be taught by Cleveland filmmaker and photographer Donn R.
Nottage.

Donn R. Nottage has been actively involved in virtually every facet of
independent film for many years. He is a cinematographer, actor, director,
writer, special make-up effects artist, and professional photographer. He
and his wife Renee are eight-time 48HFP veterans, and head up “Velvet Buck
Productions,” which has won an array of awards in multiple categories,
including Best Film in the inaugural year of the Cleveland 48 Hour Horror
Film project. He’s the co-director and cinematographer of Mikhail Tot’s
crime comedy feature film, “In Guns We Trust,” and has recently released
the film noir feature, “The Final Goodbye,” which he also co-directed and
shot. He can be seen in numerous indie films, web, and TV series, including
the Smithsonian Channel’s WWII historical series, “Hell Below.”

The workshop will take place in the Valencia Conference Room in The
Metropolitan at the 9. There will be a 90 minute break for lunch (not
included in registration fee). Attendees are encouraged to eat right in the
9's full service bar/restaurant.

All workshops are filmed for future content and marketing purposes, and all
attendees are required to sign a media release.
