One of the first known descriptions of post-traumatic stress disorder was made by the ancient Greek historian Herodotus who, in 490 BCE, reported an uninjured Athenian soldier’s blindness after witnessing the death of a fellow soldier.

Because art reflects life, Sophocles – having experienced first-hand the Persian Wars and the terrible bloodletting of the decades-long Peloponnesian War – chronicled in his tragedy “Ajax” the suicide of a great warrior after he experiences feelings of shame and remorse over his actions and pities himself over his disgrace. PTSD also works its way into “Philoctetes,” first performed in 409 BCE.

In “Boogieban,” which is getting its world premiere production at none too fragile, playwright D.C. Fidler follows suit in substance and style. Tthough the two hour one-act presentation often feels like therapy, the performances and Sean Derry’s gentle direction will make your trip to Akron worthwhile.
