Beck Center for the Arts Youth Theater, one of the oldest continuously running Youth Theaters in the country, will be holding auditions on February 9 & 10, 2019 for the final production of our 70th Anniversary Season:

Seussical

Based on the Works of Dr. Seuss Music & Book by Stephen Flaherty

Lyrics & Book by Lynn Ahrens Co-conceived by Lynn Ahrens, Stephen Flaherty, & Eric Idle

Direction & Choreography by Sarah Clare

Music Direction by Jordan Cooper

The Story:
See all of your favorite Dr. Seuss characters brought to life in this colorful musical. The Cat in the Hat tells the story of Horton, an elephant, who discovers a speck of dust that contains the Whos. Horton must protect the Whos from a world of naysayers and dangers while guarding an abandoned egg, left in his care by the irresponsible Mayzie La Bird. Although Horton faces ridicule, danger, kidnapping, and a trial, the intrepid Gertrude McFuzz never loses faith in him. Ultimately, the powers of friendship, loyalty, family, and community are challenged and emerge triumphant.

*Please note: Youth Theater roles are only eligible to students who will be enrolled in our Winter/Spring 2019 semester. Actors do not need to be enrolled at the time of the auditions, however, participation in the actual production does require Beck Center enrollment in Winter/Spring 2019 semester. Students do not need to be specifically enrolled in a Theater class at Beck Center to qualify. Students enrolled in a Winter/Spring 2019 semester class in Beck Center’s Dance, Music and Visual Arts Departments are equally eligible.

Bottom line: if you are accepting a role in the show, you will need to enroll prior to the start of rehearsals. Any questions, please feel free to contact Sarah Clare, Associate Director of Theater Education, at sclare at beckcenter.org<mailto:sclare at beckcenter.org>.
