Auditions are now being scheduled for the 2019-2020 Cleveland Orchestra and Blossom Festival Choruses. Auditions will be held by appointment only on May 4, 5, and 9.

The Cleveland Orchestra Chorus is one of the few professionally trained, all-volunteer choruses sponsored by a major American orchestra.  Coming from nearly 50 Northeast Ohio communities, members of the COC perform with the orchestra on subscription and Christmas concerts at Severance Hall. Additionally, the Chorus has appeared with the orchestra on tour (both domestic and abroad), on television, and in numerous recordings, four of which have won Grammy awards.

The Cleveland Orchestra Chorus season will begin in September and run through May. Members of the Cleveland Orchestra Chorus are required to commit to rehearsals every Monday evening from 7:00 p.m. - 10:00 p.m. and frequent Sunday evening rehearsals, in addition to all scheduled concerts. The next season for the Cleveland Orchestra Chorus will include performances of major works by Adams, Mendelssohn, and Bach. The COC rehearses weekly at Fairmount Temple in Beachwood. Only concert week rehearsals and performances take place at Severance Hall.

The Blossom Festival Chorus typically rehearses two to three evenings per week, dependent upon the concert schedule, in Beachwood. Blossom Festival Chorus members are also invited to sing with the Cleveland Orchestra Chorus for Christmas concerts in December.
The 2019 summer season for the Blossom Festival Chorus will include the following performances:
Harry Potter (treble voices only) - Rehearsals beginning June 18, with concerts June 29 & 30.
Aretha: Queen of Soul - Rehearsals beginning July 11, concert July 28.
Mozart Mass in C minor - Rehearsals beginning July 9, concert August 2.
Batman (1989 film) - Rehearsals beginning August 12, with concerts August 23 & 25.

Audition Requirements

*         All prospective members must have previous choral experience and be able to sight-read music.

*         Prepared pieces must have piano accompaniment (no a cappella singing). An accompanist is provided for auditions.

For Blossom Festival Chorus:

  *   Sing one solo prepared piece, approximately two minutes long. Repertoire may be art song, aria, or Broadway, and may be in any language.
  *   Excerpt from Mozart's Mass in C minor, which will be provided at time of scheduling.

For Cleveland Orchestra Chorus:

  *   Sing two solo prepared pieces, each approximately two minutes long. Repertoire may be art song, aria, or Broadway, and one must be in a foreign language.
  *   Excerpt from Mozart's Mass in C minor, which will be provided at time of scheduling.
