*ABREPASO Flamenco's first performance in NE Ohio, one night only at
Playhouse Square, Kennedy's Theatre*

Experience the captivating, fiery dynamism of flamenco! ABREPASO Flamenco
and nationally acclaimed choreographer/dancer Alice Blumenfeld bring the
passion of flamenco to Cleveland Saturday May 18th at Kennedy’s Theatre in
Playhouse Square. A *tablao* is the most intimate and traditional place to
experience the intensity and fiery emotions of flamenco, perfectly
recreated in Kennedy’s cellar theatre, a venue reminiscent of rustic
Spanish bodegas.

*Tablao Flamenco: Del Campo* features Marija Temo (originally from Akron,
OH) on guitar and vocals, Moisés López Ruiz (Sevilla, Spain) on flute,
Alice Blumenfeld on dance, and Liam Smith (Oberlin) on percussion. The
name *Del
Campo (of the fields)* refers to the flamenco styles based on folk songs of
Andalucía, and the performance will feature these styles.

ABREPASO has performed at Millennium Stage at The Kennedy Center in
Washington D.C., The National Hispanic Cultural Center, and Blumenfeld
toured nationally with the acclaimed Flamenco Vivo Carlota Santana dance
company.

Blumenfeld recently moved to NE Ohio, and excitedly has begun to energize
the flamenco scene in the area, transplanting her company from New Mexico
to Ohio. This is ABREPASO’s first performance in the area, and she hopes to
build appreciation for this passionate dance and music form that has been
the driving force in her life. She’s putting down roots to build flamenco
here in the NE Ohio community. Blumenfeld is currently a visiting assistant
professor at Oberlin College & Conservatory.

*“sharp and exhilarating”– Philadelphia Inquirer*

*“…simply to be enjoyed—a solo that exhibits the performer’s unique
presence and undeniable skill—Blumenfeld pounds her flamenco heels like the
heart beating when the mind ruminates upon some torment late at
night.”—Irene Hsiao, Independent Dance Reviewer*

*“I noted especially Alice Blumenfeld’s fierce presence (her movements seem
to arise from several feet beneath the ground)” – Thinking Dance*

"To be alive: not just the carcass
But the spark.
That's crudely put, but…
If we're not supposed to dance,
Why all this music?"
