Rabbit Run Theater is hiring a Costume Designer 

Date: November 11, 2019

DEADLINE TO APPLY: January 17, 2020 

Job Overview: The Costume Designer (CD) reports to the Executive Director as
a production-specific, independent contractor position. Salary range is
commensurate with experience, and is highly competitive based on comparable
theatres in the region. 

The CD will have the freedom to operate independently but must have the
ability to work closely with the director and season producer. The
successful candidate will have the ability to sew, tailor, and work with
multiple different periods and styles. RRT has an extensive period costume
collection and existing relationships for affordable costume rentals.

The CD is expected to work within a specified budget, attend production
meetings, schedule measurement appointments and costume fittings with the
production stage manager and attend each rehearsal during tech week
(typically 6:00 – 10:30 pm) through Opening Night of each production. The CD
is also responsible for any mending or replacement of costumes during the
run of each production and for the cleaning and return of any rentals at the
end of the production. Weekly cleaning of costumes is handled through an
outside source. 

The two productions available for the upcoming 2020 season include:

KISS ME KATE – First Tech: May 24, 2020 / Performances: May 29 – June 13,
2020

NEWSIES – First Tech: July 5, 2020 / Performances: July 10 – 18, 2020

DETAILED JOB DESCRIPTION: Work with director and producer to ensure designs
are within budget and appropriate to the vision and style of the production
• Design and construct or arrange rental of costumes for production •
Engage, and oversee community volunteers when appropriate • Mend or replace
costumes as needed and arrange for rental returns at the end of the
production

QUALIFICATIONS:  Exceptional project management skills • Strong
communication skills • Ability to collaborate and be a team player •
Proficient technical skills in period-specific design and sewing •
Experience managing expenses and budgets  

EXPERIENCE:  Preferably 2 years of experience working in a small scale
theatre • Some staff management and administrative experience
