SYNOPSIS:
First produced in 1941, this much-revived classic “improbable farce” from
the playwright of *Private Lives* and *Hay Fever* offers up fussy,
cantankerous Charles Condomine. After his first wife, Elvira, died, Charles
married Ruth, and they appear to live a pleasant, if uneventful, life.
Charles is writing a book about spiritualism, and invites Madame Arcati, a
medium, to join them and their friends, the Bradmans, for a séance, so that
he can acquire the suitable “local color” an author needs. As (worldly and
un-) personalities clash, Ruth - and the dead Elvira - haunt the hapless
Charles into perpetuity.
