*Synopsis*

*Hair: The American Tribal Love-Rock Musical* follows a young group of
hippies fighting the establishment, dodging the drafts, getting high,
living and loving in New York City. It’s 1967: the Vietnam War raging, and
the Age of Aquarius is dawning. Claude, his best friend Berger, their
roommate Sheila, and their Tribe of friends struggle to balance the demands
of the harsh and violent world with their dream for a more beautiful and
peaceful world. When Claude receives his draft notice, he must decide
whether to join his friends in resisting the draft or bow to the pressures
of society and his conservative parents, thereby sacrificing his ideals
and, possibly, his life. *Hair* was a sensation when it premiered in 1967,
as it brought the counterculture movement into the theatre and the national
spotlight. The issues the show brings up -- alienation, civil disobedience,
youthful defiance -- continue to timelessly resonate today.

We are looking for *Actors*, we are looking for *Singers* and *Singers* who
move well, we are looking for *Dancers* who sing or *Dancers* who don’t.

*When:*

*Singing Audition*: Sun Mar 8, 2020 6:00-8:00 pm and Mon Mar 9, 2020
7:00-9:00 pm

*Dance Audition*: Tues Mar 10, 2020 @ 7:00 pm

*Callbacks:* Sun Mar 15, 2020 @ 6 pm, If invited to callbacks, scene work,
and further music will be given.

*Where: *115 East Pioneer Trail, Aurora, OH  44202

*What to Prepare:*

*Singing Audition*: Please bring a resume, headshot and 16-32 measures of a
late 60's "pop" tune not from the show and prepared for an accompanist. No,
a capella or taped music.

*Dance Audition*: Be prepared to dance. Wear comfortable shoes and attire.

*DANCERS*: if you are auditioning to DANCE ONLY, no sign up is necessary.

*CHARACTER DESCRIPTIONS:*

*Claude Hooper Bukowski*: Male, White / European Descent, Character Age
18-25, Tenor, High Note F4 - Low Note A2, The most beautiful beast in the
forest. Smart, attractive male, with a playful side; a lover of life and
the picture of a young man next door of the 60's. Berger’s best friend
recently drafted whose only valuable possession, other than his freedom, is
his hair. A charismatic leader that women adore, boys emulate, and men will
follow into the breach. A man of conscience who struggles with the conflict
of what his heart tells him is right and what the authorities around him
lead him to believe.  Sings "Manchester England", "I'm Black", “I Got
Life”, “Hair”, Where Do I Go;", “Eyes, Look Your Last”, “Hippie Life”

*George Berger*: Male, White / European Descent, Character Age 18-25,
Tenor, High Note B4 - Low Note A#2/Bb2, A social activist recently banished
from high school. An unrestrained animal. He knows what is right and sticks
to it no matter the consequence. The leader of the tribe. High energy,
athletic, wild. Strong presence and, though he may be a young man, he is
looked up to. Sings "Donna", “1930’s”, “Going Down”, "Hair”, "I'm Black",
“Don’t Put It Down”, “Hippie Life”

*Sheila Franklin: *Female, White / European Descent, Character Age 18-25,
Mezzo-Soprano, Alto, High Note C5 - Low Note G3, A second semester student
and passionate protester from NYU who lives with Berger and Claude, aspires
to spread love, loves Berger but having Claude's baby. The most intelligent
of the tribe. Wants to change society through peaceful protest. Not
necessarily perfect on the outside but must have a strong voice and
presence. Sings “I Believe In Love”, "Easy to Be Hard", “Walking In Space”,
"Good Morning Starshine", “Eyes, Look Your Last”

*Neil “Woof” Donovan: *Male, White / European Descent, Character Age 18-25,
Tenor, Baritone, High Note G4 - Low Note D3, Does not want to admit it but
he is gay. A young animal. High energy, versatile performer. Must be a
natural with comedy. Looks up to Berger and Mick Jagger... in many ways.
Sings "Sodomy;", "I'm Black", "Ain't Got No", “Don’t Put It Down”,

*Hud*: Male, Black / African Descent, character age 18-25, Baritone, High
Note F4 - Low Note B2, Speaks his mind and hopes you can keep up with him.
High energy, spiritual performer with a strong voice and presence. A true
tone setter that is a natural on stage in any situation. Sings “Colored
Spade”, "I'm Black", "Ain't Got No", “Abie Baby”,

*Jeanie Ryan: *Female, White / European Descent, Character Age 18-25, Alto
High Note F4 - Low Note G3, A follower, not a leader. Incredibly sweet,
understands Claude better than anyone. Wise, passionate, creative woman,
who is pregnant with the tribe's baby. She has taken every drug and takes
care of the tribe. Strong actress to play comedic and dramatic scenes.
Sings “Air”, “Walking In Space”

*Dionne*: Female, Black / African Descent, Character Age 18-25, Soprano,
Mezzo-Soprano, High Note F5 - Low Note F4, Sassy and lots of fun. Great
with comedy and ad-lib vocals. Sings "Aquarius", "Ain't Got No", “Air”,
“Hung Up”, “Walking In Space”, “Eyes, Look Your Last”

*Crissy: *Female, White / European Descent, Character Age 18-25, Soprano,
Mezzo-Soprano, Alto, High Note C5 - Low Note A3, A flower child mourning a
lost love - The youngest female of the tribe. Innocent, pure. Sings “Air”,
"Frank Mills;"

*Margaret Mead*, Male, White / European Descent, a man plays a very
straight suburban Mom; open on vocal range. Sings “My Conviction”

*Hubert:  *Male, White / European Descent, plays a very straight suburban
Dad. Margaret’s miserable husband; open on vocal range.

*Male Tribe Members: *Ronny, Paul, Walter, Steve, Hiram, All Ethnicities,
Character Age 18-30, This is not a "chorus", as the entire cast is a true
ensemble. All types, Energetic, creative performers with heart and passion.
Strong versatile singer/actors who move well to play multiple roles; open
on vocal range.

*Female Tribe Members: *Leata, Suzannah, Mary, Emmaretta, Diane, Marjorie,
Linda, Natalie, All Ethnicities, Character Age 18-30, This is not a
"chorus", as the entire cast is a true ensemble. All types, Energetic,
creative performers with heart and passion. Strong versatile singer/actors
who move well to play multiple roles; open on vocal range.
