[NEohioPAL] Monthly "Raise the Roof" Concert Series Features Songwriters and More

North Eaton Christian Church will continue its series of Sunday afternoon,
monthly fundraising concerts with the March 2, 3 p.m., appearance of
singer/songwriters Matt Doyle and Jerry Allen. 

 

Matt Doyle is a dedicated local musician who has been very active in helping
to create and sustain Elyria's contemporary music scene. Matt combines a
solid mix of acoustic and electric guitar skills with well-crafted songs
about life, work, love, and family. With compositions ranging from sad to
humorous, Matt has been compared to Loudon Wainwright III, Neil Young, and
Warren Zevon. Recent appearances have included Blank Slate Elyria, the
Elyria Farmers' Market, and open mics throughout Northeast Ohio.

 

Jerry Allen, former teen recording artist for MGM Records, writes original
songs that are romantic and sentimental in style. His skillfully-honed tunes
and lyrics are delivered with smooth vocals and equally-matched guitar
accompaniment that transport listeners to the memories and yearnings of
their first love. His MGM recordings (under the name "Jerry Channing") of
Little Girl in the Magazine and When You Loved Me can be found on YouTube.
More recent recordings (by "Jerry Allen") will also be found there as well
as on ReverbNation.

 

The one-hour concert will be followed by a reception, including
refreshments. There is no charge for admission, but a freewill offering will
help support the congregation's Roof Fund.

 

In addition to raising funds for a new roof, the concert series was designed
to expose audiences to a variety of quality, local talent. Previous
performers have included singer/songwriters Ken Moody-Arndt, Bob Sammon, Jim
Schafer, and Diana Tyler, as well as a gospel group and a Christmas concert
featuring a diverse slate of performers. 

 

Upcoming concerts will include an April 5 afternoon of karaoke and a May 3
"Klergy and Keys" event which will feature David Chafin (Pastor of NECC) and
Nathan Russell (Pastor of Washington Avenue Christian Church, Elyria).
