SYNOPSIS

Arthur Foley died in 1956. After his death, he was given a job escorting other deceased to the next life. Sixty years later, he meets with Ernest, an old friend from the 50s who’s recently perished. The two chat about the horrors, beauty and connectedness of life as well as Arthur’s long-lost love Maria.

ARTHUR (25-30): Caucasian Male (character traits - Old Hollywood charm, gentle, charismatic)  Arthur’s a beautiful soul with the job of escorting the dead to Heaven. Before his death in 1956, he had a blooming yet hidden relationship with Maria, an African American woman.

ERNEST (60+): African American Male (character traits - mellow, distant, grouchy) Ernest was Arthur’s close friend from the 1950s who’s in the process of dying. His desire is to stay on Earth a little longer so he’s very defensive when Arthur comes to take him away. Must be comfortable crying or using fake tears.

MARIA (25-30): African American Female (character traits - carefree, mischievous, undaunted) Maria is Arthur’s girlfriend from the 1950s.

ANGEL (40s): Any Ethnicity (character traits - a film noir style character, cool, nonchalant ) An Angel who offers Arthur the job escorting souls to Heaven. Must be comfortable using a prop cigarette.

ERNEST YOUNG (25-30): African American Male (character traits - observant, brave, commanding) This younger version of Ernest is seen in flashbacks to the 1950s. He works as a chief at the diner and finds his close friend Arthur dead one winter night. Must be comfortable crying or using fake tears.

MINOR CHARACTERS

3 Caucasian Males. Thugs who beat and kill Arthur. Must be willing to run.


EXTRAS: 

Extras needed to fill a diner set in both 1950s and 2010s. 
2 Males (any age or ethnicity) fighting in a 1970s kitchen, resulting in the violent death of one of them.
