SHAC announces a series of community virtual art classes and webinars.  SHAC
is presenting these classes July 12 – August 7, 2020 as part of*
Stay-in-Place Productions*, the arts council’s response to COVID -19

Appreciating Photography
Program Description: A survey of creative photography to see how different
image makers have used the camera to create meaning throughout the history
of the medium.
Instructor: Benjamin Hauser

Building An Online Craft Business Using Etsy
Program Description: Etsy is a popular marketplace for selling handmade
goods. Learn to open your own shop and build your online business. Topics
include creating compelling listings, finding your target customers,
getting found in search, branding, marketing, taking good photos, pricing
strategies, and customer service.
Instructor: Karen Koch

Class Piano
Program Description: Class Piano provides students with an exploration of
the piano and beginning musical concepts such as high vs. low, piano
orientation, steady beat/rhythm patterns and playing/reading music.  This
exploratory course is great for students to find out if they might be
interested in beginning piano lessons or for students who have already
begun piano lessons.  Students will participate in a variety of games and
activities in each session.

Chalk Pastel Portraits
Program Description: Chalk Pastel Portraits is a course that teaches
students to use chalk pastel to render the likeness of a face. We will
study the proportions from different angles of the face and techniques for
blending and matching colors of skin tones and textures for hair. Students
should have chalk pastels, and a recommended supply list will be provided.

Graffiti: Text as Image
Program Description: Graffiti is ubiquitous in major cities, but more than
being an eyesore, it has actually gone through it's own artistic evolution.
This series will explore how graffiti artists develop letters and how the
interaction between text and image can be blurred. We will learn how to
draw block letters as well as using color, shape, and line to express our
own personal message.

Handcrafted Paper Art
Program Description: Create a hand-crafted object out of paper, flour,
water and decorate!  Paper mache can be used to build masks, wall art,
pencil holders, vases, even model animals! We’ll build our frame from
newspaper/circulars and small amount of flour paste. The second session we
cover our creations in paper mache.  The last day we decorate the dried
object using paint or materials from around the house.

Mixed Media Fun
Program Description: Create fun and funky postcards or greeting cards using
materials easily found at home! Upcycle empty cracker boxes or cereal boxes
along with art supplies already you have to make cheerful postcards you can
send to your friends, family, and neighbors.

Poetry Sandbox
Program Description: In this workshop we will examine and experiment with a
variety of poetic forms, tools and goals.  We will write during and between
classes, then share and discuss our efforts.  Prior poetry writing is not
required, but participants must be interested in putting pen to paper to
capture and explore the human experience.

Programming for Artists using Processing
Program Description: Using the Processing Language (a free and open source
language based on Java), students will learn the basics of programming as
applied to programming graphic images and shapes.Depending on time, we will
touch on programming animation of these shapes and graphics.

provide guidance on how you, as a Cleveland-based actor, can build an

Metheny Weir Signature Finishes
Program Description: Join us as we demonstrate our most popular finishes.
Start by learning the step by step basics of painting furniture and
cabinets. Next, we will show you how to simulate a wood grain on a table
top.  Lastly, we will walk through our elegant “Severance Finish” for walls
and furniture.
