During the early modern era, gratitude for the earth was regularly
expressed through religious and secular celebrations focused on giving
thanks for earth’s life-giving provisions. People deemed it important to be
good stewards of the earth so that it would continue to be prosperous for
future generations. The discipline of alchemy was widely practiced at the
time, encouraging balance and stasis internally as well as with our
relationship to the earth. Since the dawn of the industrial revolution,
humanity’s technological advances have both propelled society forward and
also often taken a dangerous toll on the planet. Although climate change is
widely considered by scientists to be the most pressing threat to the life
of our planet, environmental issues are often divisive and polarizing.
Encouraged by the recent global climate strikes, our program will use music
as a vehicle for inspiring productive dialogue about climate change.

Al comienzo de la época moderna, la gratitud por la tierra se expresaba a
través de celebraciones religiosas y seculares centradas en el
agradecimiento a la tierra como fuente de la vida. La gente lo consideraba
importante el cuidado de la tierra para que ésta continuara siendo próspera
para las generaciones futuras. La disciplina de la alquimia se practicaba
ampliamente en ese momento, fomentando el equilibrio y la estabilidad
interiores, así como en nuestra relación con la tierra. Desde el inicio de
la revolución industrial, los avances tecnológicos de la humanidad han
impulsado a la sociedada toda velocidad hacia futuro incierto. A menudo,
estos avances han tenido consecuencias peligrosas para el planeta. Aunque
los científicos consideran que el cambio climático es la peor amenaza para
la vida de nuestro planeta, los problemas ambientales a menudo son
divisivos y polarizadores. Inspirado por las recientes huelgas climáticas
mundiales, nuestro programa utilizará la música como vehículo para fomentar
un diálogo dinámico sobre el cambio climático.
