Mercury Theatre Company’s National Award-Winning Junior Company announces auditions for their spring season show, Urinetown.


Mercury Theatre Company’s nationally-recognized, pre-collegiate training program The Junior Company announces open auditions for students in ages 13-18 for their Spring 2021 semester and their production of Urinetown. Membership in The Junior Company is by audition and/or invitation only.


The Junior Company, led by Mercury Theatre Company artistic staff, offers students the opportunity to both perform and develop their craft while receiving instruction from a team of industry professionals. Company members receive coaching in numerous acting techniques, music theory and vocal performance, and company-wide dance training. The Junior Company produces two fully-staged musicals a year, as well as competing at national performing arts competitions such as iTheatrics’ Junior Theatre Festival, The National Performing Arts Festival, and Musical Theatre Competitions of America.



AUDITIONS FOR THE JUNIOR COMPANY

Auditions for Urinetown will be held via self-tape submission. Prospective members should prepare a 16-bar audition cut in the style of the show. Please sing with live accompaniment or a track; no a capella singing. Videos and a headshot and resume should be submitted to mtcjrcompany at gmail.com no later than 11:59pm Wednesday, January 26th. Potential callbacks May be held on January 29th in-person at Mercury Theatre Company on the campus of Notre Dame college. If you are not contacted for a callback, you may still be in consideration for a role in the production. All potential company members will be contacted prior to public release of the Urinetown cast list.


The Junior Company is seeking strong Singer-Actors and dancers. Company members must be able to sing harmony. Not all roles require dance training, but strong movement ability is necessary from all actors. Please note that the roles of Pennywise and Caldwell may be contracted to professional adult actors.


SINGING:

Prepare a short 16-bar selection of a musical theatre song in the style of the show that demonstrates range and vocal tone. Any questions about songs can be directed to Aubrey Fink at mtcjrcompany at gmail.com.


DANCING:

There will be a dance call at the callbacks. No dance submission will be necessary for preliminary auditions.



READING:

At callbacks, you may be asked to read from the script. If necessary, material will be provided at the audition.


REHEARSAL SCHEDULE

Regular rehearsals will begin Saturday, February 5th, and will take place every Saturday until the culmination of the production. Additional rehearsals may be added in April as required. Saturday rehearsals will include training in music, theatre, and dance from industry professionals. Saturday rehearsals run from 10am-5pm, but you may not be called the entire time to every rehearsal.

Please send your conflicts with your audition videos and headshot/resume. Please note that all company members must be available from 5-10pm from April 25-28, and 1-9pm on April 24th for tech rehearsals.


PERFORMANCE DATES:

April 29-May 1


COSTS

Training tuition for the spring semester of The Junior Company is $400 and may be paid in two installments of $200. The first installment is due at the first training session on February 5th and the remainder is due March 19th. You may pay in full on February 5th.


CASTING

Casting decisions will be announced by Tuesday, February 1st, and company members are expected to accept their roles no later than the first rehearsals. The roles of Pennywise and Caldwell may be contracted to professional adult actors.


**Please note that for the safely of the company, all members of the 2021-2022 Junior Company who are eligible for the COVID-19 vaccine MUST BE VACCINATED and have received their booster shot. There will be NO EXCEPTIONS to this requirement. Proof of vaccination will be required at the first rehearsal. Additional questions can be directed to mtcjrcompany at gmail.com
