Victoria Woodhull was the first woman to run for President of the United
States in 1872. She and her sister, Tennessee Claflin, were prominent in
the women's rights movement. They were the first female stockbrokers on
Wall Street, they owned their own newspaper and they sat out that important
election of 1872 in jail on the charge of sending obscene materials through
the mail!
