Solon Center for the Arts is accepting applications for a part-time
Instructor to fill the position of Musical Director for upcoming musical
theater productions. Instructors lead and act as a role model to a group of
participants in a specific area of the performing/fine arts. Instructors
develop, implement and engage participants in classes, lessons, workshops,
performances, pop-up events, etc. in their specific field/specialty.

Primary tasks and responsibilities for this position include:

•    Attend auditions and collaborate on casting with the show director and
choreographer.

•    Attend creative team meetings with Director and Choreographer to
develop the overall vision of the show.

•    Plan, prepare and attend rehearsals. Adhere to a teaching schedule set
by the director or Theater Coordinator.

•    Lead vocal warm ups and exercises, as well as teach music to the cast.

•    Accompany cast on piano during first half of rehearsals, as sound
tracks will be used for the second half of rehearsals and for performances
(no conducting, no musicians)

•    Instruct and manage a group of approximately 8 – 25 students.

This position is for approximately 2 - 4 hours per week with additional
hours for tech week and performances.

•    Fall/Winter Production Rehearsals

     o    Wednesday Evenings and/or Saturday Mornings

•    Winter/Spring Production Rehearsals

     o    Tuesday Evenings and/or Thursday Evenings

•    Additional hours required for tech week and performances of Main Stage
Shows

•    Summer Camp hours for Musical Theater Camp may be included in June &
July

Qualified applicants must have two years of teaching experience as a
Musical Director (Theater) or Choir Director. Bachelor’s degree in Music,
Theater or Music Education from an accredited institution preferred.

Candidates for this position will work closely with the Theater Department
Coordinator and must be able to work with students of all ages and skill
levels, with a specific focus on youth grades 4 – 8. Applicants must be
professional and display leadership qualities in and out of the classroom
and may be the lead instructor during rehearsals. In addition, the
applicant should possess excellent problem solving, organizational and
interpersonal skills. Applicants must be able to work in a team
environment.

This position is slotted as a P3 on Solon’s part-time wage scale which
offers a starting range from $17.00/hour. Compensation will be determined
based upon previous education, performance, and teaching experience.
