The Lorain County Community College Theatre program is pleased to present
our fall production of Jean-Paul Sartre’s *No Exit *directed by LCCC
theatre adjunct Stephanie Wilbert.

*No Exit* is a one-act philosophical drama by Jean-Paul Sartre. The play
proposes that “hell is other people” rather than a state created by God.
The play is considered an existential classic! Existential theatre is a
movement that emphasizes the existence of the individual self and the
subjective experience of life. It is a philosophical and psychological
approach that emphasizes the individual’s freedom to choose and
responsibility for his or her own actions. Existentialism in theatre often
explores the human condition, focusing on topics such as death, freedom,
and the meaning of life.

In *No Exit* two women and one man are locked up together for eternity in
one hideous room in Hell. The windows are bricked up, there are no mirrors,
the electric lights can never be turned off, and there is no exit. The
irony of this Hell is that its torture is not of the rack and fire, but of
the burning humiliation of each soul as it is stripped of its pretenses by
the cruel curiosity of the damned. Here the soul is shorn of secrecy, and
even the blackest deeds are mercilessly exposed to the fierce light of
Hell. It is an eternal torment.

*No Exit* will be performed for the public on November 17, 18 and 19, 2022
at 7:30 pm in Stocker Arts Center’s Cirigliano Studio Theatre. Tickets may
be purchased by calling or visiting the Stocker Arts Center Box Office at
440-366-4040 or online at www.stockerartscenter.com

“No Exit” is presented by arrangement with Concord Theatricals on behalf of
Samuel French, Inc.
