THE EMPEROR’S NEW CLOTHES

Lorain County Community College theatre program and Spark Theatre Company
announce non-equity auditions for “The Emperor’s New Clothes,” a new take
on the timeless tale. When two strangers arrive in the city of Logos, they
call attention to themselves by claiming to be able to make the most
magnificent and magical clothing. Emperor Caecus cannot resist such a
claim, especially when he finds out that the magic in the cloth means that
those who are unfit for their position cannot see the garments made from
the fabric. The ensuing silliness can only be sorted out by the most
intelligent and sensible person in the empire, a child name Captiosus. This
adaptation is written by Cleveland playwright, Erin E. Dolan!



Copies of the script will be on reserve at the LCCC Bass Library until the
audition dates. Digital copies for perusal may also be obtained by emailing
sparktheatre4youth at gmail.com.



WHO: Auditions are open to all LCCC students and staff, as well as actors
from the community. We are seeking actors of all types for performances at
LCCC Stocker Arts Center’s Cirigliano Theatre, as well as actors to travel
with the show on tour to schools in May. Actors do NOT need to be available
for the tour to audition. It is likely we will have a larger cast for the
April public performances, and a select group of actors to double roles for
the May tour. Actors may be considered for both options but have the option
to audition for just one or the other.



WHAT:  Auditions will be held in 5-minute time slots. You will be asked to
read from available sides at the audition. If available, please bring one
copy of your headshot and resume to the audition.



AUDITION DATES

Tuesday, February 21, 2023 from 7 pm – 9 pm and

Wednesday, February 22, 2023 from 7 pm – 9 pm



Callbacks will be held Thursday, February 23rd from 7pm-9pm, as needed.

Rehearsals to begin on Monday, March 6th, 2023

PUBLIC PERFORMANCE DATES at Cirigliano Theatre:

April 20 – 21, 2023 at 7 pm

April 22nd at 2pm

April 27th & 28th at 11:45am (for school field trips)



TOURING PERFORMANCE DATES: May 1-26, 2023. To be considered for the touring
portion of this production, actors should have reasonable availability or
flexibility during school hours from May 1-26, some conflicts are fine, and
tours will be scheduled around actor availability. The tour is expected to
perform approximately 15-20 performances throughout the month of May to
schools in NE Ohio.
