[NEohioPAL] Call for Auditions for GCA's Production of A Midsummer Night's Dream

The Geauga Center for the Arts is proud to announce its Summer Shakespeare Production: A Midsummer Night's Dream!

Written by William Shakespeare, Directed by Mark Cipra.



Performances:


Performances will be Friday, Saturday, and Sunday evenings from June 30th through July 8th at the Frances S. Hall Amphitheater in Big Creek Park in Geauga County.


Auditions:


Auditions will be held at 106 Water Street, Chardon (the building across from the theater) on Sunday, April 2, at 2:00 pm and Monday, April 3, at 6:30 p.m.

Callbacks, if needed, will be Wednesday, April 5, 6:30 p.m.


Auditioners should prepare a 1-2 minute Shakespearean monologue and be prepared to read from the script.


The play requires 14 adults and late teens.


Note that in this production Bottom will be a woman ("Nell Bottom" instead of "Nick Bottom"). As a result, the roles of Oberon and Titania will be also be altered: Oberon (still male) will have all of Titania's interactions with Bottom; Titania (female) will have all of Oberon's interactions with Puck and the lovers.


Oberon / Theseus (doubled). Male

Titania / Hippolyta (doubled). Female

Oberon and Titania are the ageless and vigorous King and Queen of the Fairies; Theseus and Hippolyta are adult humans, the Duke of Athens and Queen of the Amazons.


Bottom, an Athenian weaver. Female.


Five Mechanicals (artisans) of Athens. Any age, any gender.


Lysander, Demetrius, Hermia, Helena - four young lovers, male and female.


Egeus, Hermia's father and master of the revels for Theseus.


Puck (Robin Goodfellow). Mischievous spirit. Any age, any gender.


Other fairies and attendants.
