Dancing Wheels Company Audition Notice

The Dancing Wheels Company is seeking dancers for the 2023/24 season.

Preferred candidates should be proficient in stylized techniques (such as ballet and modern), have a unique quality of movement, possess skills for partnering, and be able to work collaboratively and improvisationally. Candidates must be strong and athletic and willing to train in any style or genre of dance. Potential wheelchair dancers must have excellent wheelchair mobility skills.

Dancers must be able to travel to perform nationwide and internationally, and work full-time. Workdays (when not on tour) are Monday-Friday 10:00AM-3:00PM. Pay scale is commensurate with experience; paid holidays and vacation time are included.

The Dancing Wheels Company will audition dancers upon an advanced-arrangement, private audition basis. There is also an opportunity for dancers to audition at the conclusion of the 2023 Adult Summer Dance Intensive June 26-30.

The Dancing Wheels Company, America’s first professional, physically integrated dance company, is a repertory-based touring company that works with highly acclaimed choreographers each year. Most recent works include full-length pieces from Marc Brew, Nai-Ni Chen, David Dorfman, Catherine Meredith, David Roussève, Mark Tomasic, Michael Uthoff and internationally renowned choreographers Donald Byrd, Donald McKayle, and Dianne McIntyre. The full ensemble trains together as stand-up and sit-down (wheelchair) dancers in an equitable and accessible environment, giving equal opportunity for training and employment for all.

To audition, interested candidates must submit:

  *   a letter of interest,
  *   resumé,
  *   headshot, and
  *   full-body dance photo
  *   If available, include a link to a YouTube or Vimeo video excerpt of a recent performance or class (filmed within the last 12 months). In ensemble work, please indicate your position in the performance.

Dancing Wheels Adult Summer Dance Intensive June 26-30, 2023
Join The Dancing Wheels Company for our one-week Adult Summer Dance Intensive.  This program is designed for pre-professional dancers ages 15 and up, professional dancers, and dance teachers looking to build their knowledge and practice of dance with the nation’s premier physically integrated dance company. Participants of this intensive may be invited to audition for the company's 2023-2024 season. June 26-30, 2023. Tuition is $300. Dancing Wheels Teacher Certification Program
Dancing Wheels Company Physically Integrated Dance Teacher Certification Program. Participants will learn how to apply the foundational principles of Dancing Wheels’ ground-breaking methodologies to incorporate physically integrated in their own dance practices. Level 1 participants are assessed on the established learning outcomes. Certification is for 3 years and would require recertification at 3-year intervals. July 10-14, 2023. Tuition is $1,250.
