CLEVELAND PLAY HOUSE EDUCATION CASTING LOCAL CHILD UNDERSTUDIES FOR WORLD PREMIER PRODUCTION OF

 WATCHING BUTTERFLIES



Cleveland Play House (CPH) is seeking to cast two local child actors as understudies for the Family Theatre Program’s 2023 production of Watching Butterflies, by Eric Schmiedl, directed by Liesbeth Coltof. This is a paid role ($200.00 per week for rehearsals and performance weeks). In order to be paid for this production, actors must be eligible to work in the United States.



Understudy roles available:

  *   1 boy, age approximately 7-9
  *   1 boy, age approximately 11-13

Auditions are by appointment only. Interested parties should email casting at clevelandplayhouse.com to request an audition.



Rehearsals begin May 24, 2023, and will be Wednesdays through Sundays (after school hours during the school year.



Technical rehearsals are June 13 – 16.



Performances run June 17 – 24.



Synopsis:

Five children find themselves in a room. Why are they there? How did they get there? Can anyone get out? Who is a helper? Who is not? The children must rely upon their collective skills, talents, and experiences to find a way to health, safety and understanding. Inspired by and created in partnership with families in Cleveland along with internationally recognized director, Liesbeth Coltof, and Cleveland Play House; this play celebrates ingenuity, humor, determination, and resilience as it shines a light upon the critical needs experienced by people living in Cleveland’s under-resourced communities. "Watching Butterflies" is part of 10CHILDREN CLEVELAND, a collaboration between Cleveland Play House, The School of Film & Media Arts, LAND Studio, and MetroHealth Hospital (Institute of Hope) to create a theatrical play, a documentary, visual arts and an educational project.



Please note that Cleveland Play House will be preparing to record this production for educational use for Cleveland Play House’s CARE curriculum.
