77th Annual One World Day in Cleveland Cultural Gardens this Sunday

For Immediate Release

August 21, 2023

Cleveland, OH -The 77th annual One World Day which will be held on Sunday August 27, 2023 from 11 AM - 6PM throughout the Cultural Gardens on both East and MLK Boulevards. Since 1945 the Cleveland Cultural Gardens Federation (CCGF) has celebrated One World Day which exemplifies the theme of the Gardens: "Peace through Mutual Understanding."

Tens of thousands of people attend One World Day to experience diversity in people, heritages, gardens, entertainment and food. With the streets closed to traffic, visitors can stroll, bike, scoot or ride the free shuttles throughout the 250 acre footprint and visit many of the 40 or so Gardens.

Special attractions include a moving Naturalization Ceremony where people from 25 countries will become US citizens. Throughout the day there will be ethnic and cultural performances on the main stage at the Centennial Peace Plaza but also in most of the Gardens. When people visit a Garden they will experience the culture of that community.

The Parade of Flags will be the largest ever with over 1,0000 people from over 50 cultures marching with flags and traditional clothing of their heritage. Over half will have drums, bagpipes or other music. In a demonstration of unity, MCs for the Parade include reporters from all 4 TV stations. County Executive Chris Ronayne is the Grand Marshal.

The interactive Children's Village has been expanded and includes a Market Place (one of three at One World Day) and 5 food trucks. Kids can try Cleveland Orchestra instruments, pet an alpaca, hear a story, play games and more. Free Passports will be handed out and when a child visits a Garden they will have a task or activity (how to say "hello" in Finnish or "Where is Vietnam on the map" or...) and then turn in the passport for a prize.

Adults can relax in one of the 3 Beer Gardens in the German, Serbian and Irish Gardens. Over 20 food trucks will be on site and many gardens will have pastries and other ethnic food and drink.

The event is free as is parking and the shuttles. Detailed instructions on how to get to One World Day and where to park are on the website. There will be lots of volunteers and signs to assist.
