About the Instructor:
Kami Anderson has almost 3 decades of professional performing experience in West African dance. She been immersed in African dance since the age of four growing up in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. When she was 10 years old, she was tapped to be a member of Ko-Thi Dance Company’s youth company, Ton Ko-Thi. It was in Ko-Thi that she began her formal training in West African dance. In 1999, she became a member of Coyaba Dance Theater in Washington, DC where she mastered her teaching and drumming musicality with African Dance.
With Coyaba, Kami did two dance intensives with the National Ballet du Senegal in Dakar, Senegal and began teaching all levels and multigenerational students in dances primarily from Guinea and the old Mali Empire. She became dance captain soon after and served as Assistant Director of the youth company for 3 seasons.
Kami loves being able to share African culture through dance. In addition to her extensive dance training, she also has a PhD in Communication and Culture, teaches in the online graduate school for Liberty University and runs her own business, Bilingual Brown Babies.
*Stimulation Warning: This dance class typically uses traditional African drum
