 From the songwritingwizards behind Cabaret and Chicago comes Curtains, a hit comedy whodunnit deadset on laughs and entertainment.
It's 1959, and themysterious death of a theater's leading lady makes everyone - onstage andbackstage - a potential suspect. Enter fast-talking detective Frank Cioffi, astagestruck gumshoe who sniffs out clues while donning tap shoes.
With its tunefulscore and clever plot, Curtains blends Agatha Christie-like mystery with thespectacular song and dance of golden-age musicals.
CHARACTERBREAKDOWN:
LIEUTENANT FRANKCIOFFI Local Boston detective who is also a musical theatre aficionado. Asidefrom being exceptionally good at his job, he also aspired to be a musicaltheatre performer his entire life. He falls in love with Niki.
NIKI HARRIS Pretty, naïveingénue. Niki is a chorus girl/understudy in the chorus of theshow-within-the-show during its Boston tryout. She aspires to make it as aperformer on Broadway. She meets and falls in love with Dt. Frank Cioffi who isinvestigating a murder at the theatre. Actress must have legit Soprano and goodcomic timing.
GEORGIA HENDRICKS Female half of oursongwriting team. She ends up taking on the leading lady role. She must singand dance well.
CARMEN BERNSTEIN Brassy Broadwayproducer. She is a terrific comedic actress who sings well.
AARON FOX The composer of theshow-within-the-show. His songwriting partner, Georgia, is also his wife fromwhom he’s separated. He’s a sexy charming ladies’ man.
SIDNEY BERNSTEIN The producer of anout-of-town flop. Sidney is tough and self-serving. Actor should have goodcomedic timing.
CHRISTOPHER BELLINGEnglish director. Very camp. Very funny. Requires a good comic lead actor.
BAMBI BERNET Performer in thechorus and daughter of Carmen, the lead producer. Hungry to work her way toleading performer many think she was only hired because of her mother. Bambi isa good dancer/comedienne who sings well.
DARYL GRADY A theatre criticfor the local Boston newspaper, he enjoys using the power he has to make orbreak shows during their out-of-town tryouts.
JOHNNY HARMON The Stage Managerof the show-within-the-show. Johnny is a character man who is gruff butlovable. He keeps the company in line and on their toes throughout therehearsal process.
OSCAR SHAPIRO The GeneralManager. He is an agreeable if slightly gruff man. He is always looking for anangle to find money. Requires a good comic actor who sings.
BOBBY PEPPER The choreographerand lead dancer. He is a strong singer who dances well.
JESSICA CRENSHAW Fading Hollywoodstar. A diva, who has no right to be one, she is a terrible singer and actresswho stars in the show-within-the-show and gets murdered on its opening night.
