*If you cannot make auditions, please email us your headshot and resume for consideration. If possible, submit a video audition for consideration. We do our best to see and consider additional people, but attending auditions is always ideal.

Audition Date: Monday October 30th

Time: 7:00pm-10:00pm

What to prepare:  Please prepare one or two brief musical theatre songs, or in the style of the show, showing range. Please bring sheet music in the correct key. An accompanist will be provided. Please bring a headshot and resume to auditions. Headshots and resumes are appreciated, but not required.

Performance Dates: December 1 - 16

Shows will be Thursday-Sunday. Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays at 8:00pm. Sunday performances will be at 7:00pm.

Rehearsals: Begin Monday November 6th

Rehearsals will be Sundays-Thursdays. Typically, 7pm-10pm, though Sundays are usually 6pm-10pm.

Pay: Blank Canvas Theatre dedicates 20% of the net profit to the cast of each show. The cast splits this evenly.

*At this time there are no AEA Contracts for this show. However, we may explore the option if needed.

The Story

THE CLEVELAND PREMIERE

Rocky Balboa is a small-time Philadelphia boxer who is chosen to take on the reigning world heavyweight champion, Apollo Creed, when the undefeated fighter's scheduled opponent is injured. As he diligently trains for the fight, Rocky begins a relationship with Adrian, a wallflower who is tired of being pushed around by her brother. As their love grows, Rocky and Adrian each find their inner strength and bring out the best in each other. With equal parts grit and heart, Rocky is about the triumph of spirit, strength, and love.

>From the Academy Award(r) winner for Best Picture, Rocky has entered the ring again in this musical adaptation. Rocky is a hard-hitting yet tender musical with music and lyrics by Tony(r) winners and Academy Award(r) nominees Lynn Ahrens and Stephen Flaherty, and a book by multiple Tony winner Thomas Meehan, adapted from the acclaimed Oscar(r)-nominated screenplay by Sylvester Stallone.

Character Breakdowns

* Due to the nature of the show, the roles of Rocky and Apollo have been precast. See below for actors in these roles.

ALL OTHER roles are open to all types, all ethnicities, and actors with disabilities unless otherwise noted.

*Rocky Balboa (Male. 25-45) This role has been cast and will be played by Michael Snider. An amateur boxer with dreams and determination. He aspires to have a shot at the heavyweight championship and a better life.

*Apollo Creed (Male. 25-45) This role has been cast and will be played by Matt Deus. A confident African American championship fighter. He is everyone's favorite to win the heavyweight title.

Adrian Pennino (Female. 25-45) A shy pet store clerk. Her life is overshadowed by her domineering older brother, Paulie. Vocal range top: D5. Vocal range bottom: G3

Mickey Goldmill (Male. 50-80) Rocky's trainer, a father figure to him. A former boxer himself, Mickey is passionate about boxing. Vocal range top: B3. Vocal range bottom: D3

Paulie Pennino (Male. 35-50) Adrian's bullying older brother. He tries to use Adrian and Rocky as pawns to get what he wants.

Gloria (Female. 40-50) The vivacious owner of the pet store where Adrian works. Paulie's love interest. Vocal range top: D5. Vocal range bottom: Db4.

Joanne (Female. 18-50) A friend and coworker of Gloria and Adrian. Vocal range top: E5 Vocal range bottom: C4

Angie (Female. 18-50) A friend and coworker of Gloria and Adrian. Vocal range top: D5 Vocal range bottom: D4

Gazzo (Male. 18-60) A ruthless loan shark who employs Rocky. Vocal range top: E4. Vocal range bottom: D3.

Jergens (Male. 18-60) Apollo Creed's promoter. Vocal range top: F4 Vocal range bottom: Bb2

Dipper Riley (Male. 18-45) An up-and-coming boxer. Vocal range top: G#3 Vocal range bottom: C#3

Ensemble (Male/Female. 18-60) The ensemble will play some of the above roles as well as the crowd, referees, street singers, Apollo's girls, and boxers.
