Convergence-continuum announces auditions for Stonewallinby Kari Barclay

PLAY DESCRIPTION:

"Stonewall Jackson coughs, and out comes glitter."Stonewallin' is a queer coming-of-age story in the American South full ofwitchcraft, war re-enactors, and ghosts. The winner of the inaugural So.QueerPlaywriting Contest, Stonewallin' explores the gap between symbolic politicsand material politics in racial history and offers an account of attractionrarely seen on stage.

The witches are up to something in the small-town South.When Marsha moves from Berkeley to Virginia to reconnect with her family’sroots, she finds a barista with an astrology obsession, a Confederate monumentgone missing, and the makings of a bisexual love story — if she wants it. Withhumanity, humor, and as many layers as a biscuit, this new play explores thefamilies we choose, the families we don’t, and the folks making magic in achanging South.

AVAILABLE ROLES:

·        Tommy Jackson—a witch looking for a soulmate; white, twenties,feminine-of-center

·        Marsha Lyons-a wanderer trying to find home; black, thirties, bisexual andhomoromantic (more on that later)

·        Mamaw Jackson—an elder hoping to make sense of a changing world; Tommy’sgrandmother, white, sixties, old school and casually racist

·        Elijah Lyons—a city council member trying to protect his community; Marsha’solder brother, black, late thirties, big into respectability politics

·        Stonewall Jackson—a Confederate general brought back to earth against his will;white, late thirties, has wartime trauma 

ABOUT THE AUDITIONS:

January 14th, NOON

January 15th, 7PM

Have a1-2 min dramedy monologue prepared. If not, sides will be available uponrequest.

Auditions will occur at the LIMINIS Theatre, 2438 Scranton Rd.Cleveland, OH 44113.

PRODUCTION DATES:

Production will be Friday Arch 29th through April 20th , withperformances Thursday – Saturday at 8pm.
