LAST CALL!
We're just about two weeks out from Clague Playhouse's upcoming auditions
for its production of OPUS, by Michael Hollinger, directed by Craig Joseph.
Show Dates: January 24-February 16, 2024 The Story: After firing one of
their founding members due to his erratic behavior, a world-class string
quartet takes a chance on a gifted but relatively inexperienced young
woman. With only a few days to rehearse a grueling Beethoven masterpiece,
the four struggle to prepare their highest-profile performance ever—a
televised ceremony at the White House. Their rehearsal room becomes a
pressure-cooker as passions rise, personalities clash, and the players are
forced to confront the ephemeral nature of their life’s work. Recipient of
the Barrymore Award for Outstanding New Play, a Steinberg New Play Citation
from the American Theatre Critics Association, and nominations for Lucille
Lortel and John Gassner Awards for Best New Play. Character Breakdown:
ELLIOTT, 40s, male-identifying, any race. First violin. Secretly dating
Dorian. A bit uptight, perfectionist, leader of the group and doesn't like
being crossed. Often serious and taciturn. Very responsible. ALAN, 30s-40s,
male-identifying, any race. Second violin. Happy-go-lucky. Wants there to
be harmony among the quartet. May or may not be romantically interested in
Grace. Often feels like a friendly puppy. A bit of a slob. DORIAN, 30s-40s,
male-identifying, any race. Viola. The best musician in the group, but with
an artist's volatile, moody temperament. A little unpredictable. Secretly
dating Elliott and often in conflict with him. He's been kicked out of the
group and wants back in. Probably a genius. CARL, 40s, male-identifying,
any race. Cello. Family man. Stable center of the group, but is feeling the
strain of his group's disharmony. His cancer has returned, and he's trying
to keep it a secret from the rest of them. Doesn't speak often, but when he
does, his wisdom causes others to listen. GRACE, 20s, female-identifying,
any race. Viola. The youngest and a newcomer to the group. May seem a bit
shy and reticent at first, but she can hold her own among these men.
Talented musician - and able to speak truth to the group when they can't
see beyond their messed-up dynamic. Full of surprises. Audition Dates and
Times: Saturday, May 25th from 1-5 PM / Tuesday, May 28th from 6-10 PM at
Clague Playhouse (1371 Clague Road, Westlake, OH 44145). To Audition:
