When speaking or singing, the vocal cords vibrate against each other up to 100-200 times per second. For those who use their voice for work, entertainment, or recreation, this can add up to millions of cycles of vibrations per day. Without adequate rest, care, and recovery, the repetitive vibration can cause wear and tear on the vocal cords, which could lead to strain or injury.
Want to learn more? De Novo Wellness is excited to welcome Julia Mihalich to Heart Space for a 3-part series on vocal health. Julia is a seasoned vocalist and voice instructor at various local music studios including Portage Music Lessons. She has earned her M.A. in Voice Pedagogy to accompany her B.M. in Vocal Performance. Julia is passionate about voice and vocal health and has an abundance of information to share.
