and personal. Our talented guest artists will showcase their skills in
a stripped-down,
acoustic setting that will transport you to the heart of Spain. Don't miss
this unique opportunity to witness the artistry and soul of flamenco in its

artists and learn more about their journeys in flamenco.

Guest Performer Bios

Marija Temo is a classical/flamenco guitarist, flamenco vocalist,
conductor, and former dancer. She has come into her own, combining her
flamenco and classical abilities in unique types of performance.
“Challenging the rules of traditional flamenco…She continues to break new
ground…” Philadelphia Inquirer. A few highlights include: Vocal contestant
on La Voz US, NBC TV; Composer/Arranger/Accompanist for the “Flamenco
Nutcracker” production; Performer and judge at The Guitar Foundation of
America International Guitar Festival and Competition; Performer with the
Zac Brown Band, and has had two works for guitar and written for her by
Loris Chobanian. Temo is Guitar Chair at the Wisconsin Conservatory of
Music, Milwaukee, WI. She is an alumna of Baldwin- Wallace College and

Alice Blumenfeld is known for a unique and “fierce presence (her movements
seem to arise from several feet beneath the ground)” (Thinking Dance) and
her “sharp and exhilarating” energy onstage (Philadelphia Inquirer).
Blumenfeld is the founder and artistic director of ABREPASO flamenco. The
company’s name means to break open space and their mission is to deepen
appreciation for flamenco and create original choreographies, finding new
entry points into and new pathways within the art form. Blumenfeld’s
recognitions include: a Fulbright recipient in dance in Spain, a U.S.
Presidential Scholar in the Arts, and a two-time Ohio Arts Council
Individual Excellence Award recipient in choreography (FY20 & 22). She
toured nationally with Flamenco Vivo Carlota Santana, and has been a guest
artist with Nélida Tirado, the American Bolero Dance Company, Antonio
Granjero, Jácome Flamenco, among other companies and she has performed in
Berlin and Spain. Blumenfeld holds an MFA in Dance from Hollins University
and a BA in Comparative Literature from New York University where she
graduated summa cum laude, with highest departmental honors, and Phi Beta
Kappa.

Alex Jordan was born in Havana, Cuba. He studied flamenco guitar in Spain
with  Juan Maya (Marote), Rafael Riqueni and José Luis de la Paz.  Alex has
been guitarist for the Lizt Alfonso Ballet, Compañías Aires y Ecos and the
Spanish Ballet of Havana. In 2000 he moved to Bogotá, Colombia, where he
formed and directed the flamenco  music and dance group Taconearte.
Taconearte obtained the Pasos 2002 creation grant and the national prize
for  musical stage montage in 2005 with the work "Flamenco 24 hours" in
which he  composed and arranged the music. In 2005 he moved to Florida and
since then has been a sought after guitarist with many companies in the
U.S., inlcuding: Antonio Granjero's Entre Flamenco, José Luis de la Paz
Guitar Ensemble, and Siudy Garrido's company. He appeared in Alejandro Sanz
and Marc Anthony’s music video Deja que te bese. In 2018 Alex moved to Los
Angeles where he performed at the Cumbre Flamenca Festival with artists
from Spain such as Maria Juncal and Ivan Vargas. As performing  artist and
session musician Alex has worked with artist such as  Azucar Moreno,  Maria
Juncal, Raquel Heredia, Rafael de Utrera, Manolete, Jose Luis de la Paz,
Andres  Cepeda, Sahaavedra, Jorge Luis Chicoy, Karoll Marquez, Tita
Contreras among others.

mission is to create new pathways within, and new entry points into, the
flamenco art form, because we know how live experiences with flamenco can
be transformational for individuals and communities.

We share flamenco music, dance, history, and culture through workshops,
year-round classes, K-12 Arts Education, apprenticeship programs, arts
therapy, traditional tablao performances, and boundary-pushing
collaborative performances.
