Lorain County Community College announces non-equity auditions for our
upcoming production of *She Kills Monsters.* We are seeking 10+ performers
and various production positions for this production.

Story Synopsis: *She Kills Monsters* tells the story of Agnes Evans as she
leaves her childhood home in Ohio following the death of her teenage
sister, Tilly. However, when Agnes finds Tilly’s Dungeons &
Dragons notebook, she finds herself catapulted into a journey of discovery
and action-packed adventure in the imaginary world that was her sister’s
refuge. In this high-octane dramatic comedy laden with homicidal fairies,
nasty ogres, and 90s pop culture, acclaimed playwright Qui Nguyen offers a
heart-pounding homage to the geek and warrior within us all.


*Roles are available for 10+ actors of all genders and ages.*

·       *Agnes Evans*: Agnes is described as striving to live an average
life. She is of average height, size, and build, and grew up in the average
town of Athens, Ohio <https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Athens,_Ohio> with
average parents. Agnes is a 25-year-old English teacher at her and Tilly's
former high school. After Tilly's death, Agnes decides to go on a D&D
adventure to feel closer to Tilly, as they never had a close relationship.

·       *Tilly Evans/Tillius the Paladin*: Agnes's sister who dies in a car
crash at the age of fifteen. Tilly has a love for D&D adventures, and
anything classified as nerdy or geeky. Through the D&D module Agnes plays,
it is learned that Tilly was facing her own challenges with her sexuality
<https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sexuality> and bullying while she was still
alive. In the game, her girlfriend is Lilith, who is later learned to be
based on one of her friends named Lilly (or Elizabeth).

·       *Miles*: Agnes's boyfriend of five years. During the original
version of the play, Miles and Agnes are in the process of moving in
together. Miles is shown to fear commitment for not proposing to Agnes;
however, at the end of the play the Narrator reveals that they eventually
did get married. He appears in the game as a shapeshifting "gelatinous
cube" that Agnes must kill.

·       *Orcus* <https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Orcus>*/Ronnie*: A demon
<https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Demon> overlord of the underworld that holds
onto lost souls or knows where to find them. He is obsessed with watching
television. The party travels to him first to ask about the Lost Soul of
Athens. He later joins the party on their quest. He is based on one of
Tilly's high school friends named Ronnie.

·       *Vera*: Agnes's best friend in both versions of the play, the
difference being in the original she is the school's counselor and in the
YA version she works at a GAP outlet store. She is supportive of Agnes but
does not approve of Miles.

·       *Chuck*: A member of Tilly's friend group and the Dungeon Master
<https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dungeon_Master> for the game. He helps Agnes
throughout the module and introduces her to Tilly's other real-life friends.

·       *Lilith Morningstar/Lilly*: A Demon Queen that resembles a
leather-clad dominatrix <https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dominatrix> and is
Tilly's girlfriend in the game. Lilith is based on Tilly's high school
friend Lilly, who was Tilly's first kiss but is still in the closet
<https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Coming_out>.

·       *Kaliope Darkwalker/Kelly*: Kaliope is a Dark Elf
<https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Drow> that is described as looking like a
supermodel and is incredibly strong. She is based on Tilly's high school
friend Kelly, who is Ronnie's sister.

·       *Narrator*: Describes the events going on in the story and gives
background description of the reason behind the story and the characters of
Agnes and Tilly. The narrator is described as sounding like Cate Blanchett
<https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cate_Blanchett> from *The Lord of the Rings*
<https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Lord_of_the_Rings_(film_series)>.

·       *Steve*: In real life he is one of Tilly's classmates. In the game
he is a mage <https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mage_(fantasy)> that usually is
on the receiving end of bosses showing how powerful they are, resulting in
his death multiple times over.

·       *Farrah*: A fairy <https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fairy> and one of
the bosses Agnes and her party must face before they can reach the final
boss.

·       *Evil Gabbi* and *Evil Tina*: Cheerleader succubi
<https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Succubus> that torment Tilly, in particular
about her sexuality, both in the game and when she was alive. They are
based on Tilly's high school bullies.


LCCC Theatre embraces diversity and inclusion and utilizes a
non-traditional casting policy. Non-traditional casting is a method
designed to increase artistic options by expanding casting opportunities
for women, actors of color, seniors, and actors with disabilities in roles
where race, gender, age, or the presence or absence of a disability are not
germane. To that end, we encourage all actors to audition, regardless of
race, ethnicity, gender identity, or physical ability. Please note that
this play contains moments of intimacy.


*Other Production Positions Available:*

Those interested in non-performing positions such as run crew, set, lights,
costumes, and stage management are encouraged to attend auditions, but may
also email LCCC Director of Theatre Jeremy Benjamin at

*How to Audition*

*Auditions will occur on Monday, September 16 from 7:00 to 9:00 pm
and Tuesday, September 17 from 7:00 to 9:00 pm. Callbacks, if necessary,
will be held on Thursday, September 19 from 7:00 to 9:00 pm.* Please review
the available slots below and click the button to sign up. Actors will be
asked to read from the script and to participate in some group
improvisational movement exercises, so come prepared to move. Please bring
a resume and headshot if possible or be prepared to fill out an audition
form and have your photo taken. Plan to stay for at least half an hour.
Scripts are available on 2 hr. reserve at the circulation desk of LCCC’s
Bass Library.

*Rehearsals*

Rehearsals are scheduled around actor availability October-November 2024.
Rehearsals will begin Monday, September 30, 2024. Rehearsals will be
Monday-Thursday from 6:30 - 9:30 pm, with the possibility of some Sunday
afternoon rehearsals from 4:00 - 7:00 pm.


*Performances*

All performances will occur on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, November
21-23, 2024 at 7:30 pm in the Cirigliano Studio Theatre located on the
campus of Lorain County Community College.
