The Sound of Music to be heard at CVLT this winter, November 15 - December
15
*Subheading: Beloved Musical Returns to CVLT Stage After 30-Year Hiatus*
CHAGRIN FALLS, OH — The hills are alive once again as Chagrin Valley Little
Theatre proudly presents the beloved masterpiece THE SOUND OF MUSIC,
opening November 15 and running through December 15, 2024 as part of CVLT's
95th Season. The hit musical features music by Richard Rogers, lyrics by
Oscar Hammerstein II, and book by Howard Lindsay & Russell Crouse as
suggested by "The Trapp Family Singers" by Maria Augusta Trapp.
Performances on CVLT’s main stage will take place Fridays and Saturdays at
7:30 PM with Sunday matinees at 2:00 PM on Nov. 24, Dec. 1, 8, and 15.
Tickets are available $23 with a $4 discount for seniors, students, and
military. A special performance on December 1 will support Friends of
WomenSafe, sponsored by Junction Auto Family, featuring complimentary
concessions provided by the organization.
Under the direction of Mason Stewart, with musical direction by Oliver Deak
and choreography by Jordon Matthew, this production features a talented
cast of local actors and on-stage musicians bringing to life the play
inspired by the true story of Maria Rainer and the von Trapp family. Abby
Longshore stars as the spirited postulant Maria, alongside Cory Bryner as
Captain von Trapp and Adair Arko as Mother Abbess.
This enchanting show features familiar songs including "Do-Re-Mi," "My
Favorite Things," "Climb Ev'ry Mountain," and "Edelweiss." Set against the
backdrop of pre-World War II Austria, the musical tells the story of a
high-spirited novice who brings music and joy back to the von Trapp family
while navigating her own path between religious calling and romantic love.
CVLT’s production of THE SOUND OF MUSIC is its first in three decades, and
also marks the 75th anniversary of the theatre’s building at 40 River
Street. The production takes a fresh approach to the familiar material.
“This production is focused on the emotions and relationships at the core
of the story,” says producer Allie Morrison, “with bold choices that
transcend the traditional period setting and staging. We’re presenting this
timeless classic in an intimate way that we hope will connect audiences
with its messages of love, courage and family like never before.”
The production includes actors with an age range spanning eight decades,
and showcases two rotating casts of talented young performers as the von
Trapp children, ensuring fresh energy and exceptional performances
throughout the run. The "Edelweiss Cast" performs November 15, 22, 24, 30
and December 6, 8, 14, while the "Do-Re-Mi Cast" takes the stage November
16, 23, 29 and December 1, 7, 13, 15.
Tickets for THE SOUND OF MUSIC are available 24/7 at the CVLT.org website.
For ticket inquiries and reservations, please contact the Chagrin Valley
Little Theatre Box Office at (440) 247-8955 or via email at
BoxOffice at CVLT.org. Phone sales are available from 1-6 PM, Tuesday through
Friday, with the box office opening two hours before all performances. Due
to limited parking and construction projects in Chagrin Falls, early
reservations and arrival are highly recommended. CVLT is located at 40
River Street in historic Chagrin Falls Village.
THE SOUND OF MUSIC is presented by arrangement with Concord Theatricals on
behalf of The Rodgers & Hammerstein Organization. www.concordtheatricals.com
