*Be More Chill to Make Northeast Ohio Premiere at Hopewell Theatre,
presented by The Millennial Theatre Company!*
*YOUNGSTOWN, OH*– The Millennial Theatre Company (MTC) will present the
area premiere of the viral hit Broadway musical Be More Chill at Hopewell
Theatre (702 Mahoning Ave, Youngstown, OH 44502), April 25-27 and May 2-4.
Friday and Saturday performances begin at 7:30 PM and Sunday performances
begin at 2:00 PM. Be More Chill follows the story of Jeremy Heere, an
average teenager who finds out about “The Squip,” a tiny supercomputer that
promises to bring him everything he desires most: a date with Christine, an
invite to the raddest party of the year, and a chance to survive life in
his suburban New Jersey high school. With a hit score by Joe Iconis,
including the viral sensation “Michael in the Bathroom”, Be More Chill is
sure to delight audiences of all ages!
Director Joe Asente states that this show has been in the works for a long
time with MTC, “We were originally slated to produce Be More Chill during
our 2020 season, which was ultimately cancelled by the COVID-19 Pandemic.
The time is now finally right for us to, at long last, produce this show,
and we could not be more proud of the results. This cast is led by the
incredible Tom Millsap-Kijaukas as Jeremy, who only three weeks ago stepped
into the role of Jeremy Heere after the previous lead was injured. He leads
this show with the loveable energy of every geek craving the high of
fitting in with the popular crowd.”
Asente said that this show is a natural fit for MTC, as the company focuses
on programming that appeals to the next generation of theatre goers and
makers, “Be More Chill was truly the first musical to go viral online. Led
by a campaign of young people, the soundtrack reached the Billboard Cast
Album Top 10 and despite the odds, caught the eyes of Broadway producers,
and the rest is history. This was the first musical that made its way to
Broadway thanks to the interest and passion of the next generation of
theatre goers, and we are excited to be the first to bring this unique,
generation-defining musical to Youngstown audiences! Although this musical
was championed by younger audiences, this is a musical that is sure to
delight and engage audiences of all ages and backgrounds.”
This production features Tom Milllsap-Kijauskas, Brianna Rae Quinn, Finn
O’Hara, Sam Early, Ryan Stewart, Ben Doss, Ryan Lamb, Karlina Wander,
Hannah Sinclair, Karina Moran, Andy Scott, Landon Eli, Lucas Mitchell, Kate
Congo, and David Santiago. The production is directed by Joe Asente, with
choreography by Danielle Mentzer, and musical direction by Cari Auth.
Tickets are $25 and are available online at www.millennialtheatre.org.
