Dear Community Members,


Kent State University is home to three vibrant concert bands—the Wind Ensemble, Symphony Band, and University Band—all of which welcome community participation. High school students are also eligible to join through the College Credit Plus (CCP) Program.


Wind Ensemble- The Wind Ensemble is Kent State’s premier auditioned wind band, composed of the university’s top wind and percussion musicians. The ensemble includes both undergraduate and graduate music majors, as well as talented non-majors. Under the direction of Dr. Benjamin Lorenzo, the group performs advanced traditional and contemporary repertoire.

• Rehearsals: Tuesdays and Thursdays, 1:10–3:05 PM, and select Fridays, 1:10–2:20 PM

Symphony Band-Also an auditioned ensemble, the Symphony Band includes student musicians from across campus who demonstrate high levels of musicianship and dedication. Conducted by Dr. Darin Olson, the band explores a wide range of repertoire from various periods and styles.

• Rehearsals: Tuesdays and Thursdays, 3:20–5:15 PM

• Location: Band Educational Facility


University Band (Communiversity Band)- The University Band is open to all university students and community members—no audition required! This ensemble is perfect for those who wish to continue playing and enjoy performing standard band literature in a relaxed, supportive setting. The group is led by Dr. Benjamin Lorenzo.

• Rehearsals: Tuesday evenings, 7:00–9:15 PM

• Registration Deadlines:

• For community volunteers: mid-to-late September

• For enrolled students: based on university course registration deadlines
